Virat Kohli had a rare failure in the first ODI against England in Birmingham, but as they say, you cannot keep a great player down for too long, and Kohli proved the statement right as he roared back amongst the run-getters in the second ODI on Thursday.

On a Sophia Gardens wicket in Cardiff that was slow in nature, the Indian batters generally struggled to play their strokes, but Kohli came out to bat with a positive frame of mind as he took on the English bowling attack.

He struck a couple of glorious boundaries and quickly raced away to his fifty as he bailed India out of a tricky situation, and in the process, surpassed his idol, Sachin Tendulkar, in a huge milestone.

Virat Kohli misses out on deserving century in IND Vs ENG 2nd ODI

The wicket was not the easiest to bat on, but after the early hiccups, Kohli made sure there were no more wickets as he mixed caution with aggression, and breached several records as he scored a brilliant fifty in the IND Vs ENG 2nd ODI.

He stitched a crucial partnership alongside Shreyas Iyer, but just when it looked like the Indian legend would score a century, Jofra Archer struck.

The England bowler dismissed the veteran batter as he miscued a shot and was dismissed for a well-compiled 65 off 66 balls, laced with 8 fours.
