Bangladesh launched a spirited fightback against the West Indies on Day 3 of their series-deciding second Test in Sylhet. Up against a strong 356-run first innings total by the West Indies, the hosts slipped to 184-7 after resuming the innings on Day 3 at 88-3.

However, playing just the third Test of his career, middle-order batter Towhid Hridoy notched up his maiden century in the format and shared a rebellious 117-run partnership for the eighth wicket with tailender Taijul Islam.

Taijul Islam and Towhid Hridoy defy West Indies with record stand

Struggling at 184-7 in 64 overs, Bangladesh number four Towhid Hridoy stitched together a 117-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Taijul Islam to steer the hosts past the 300-run mark on Day 3.

Taijul faced 56 deliveries in the partnership to conjure 22 fighting runs with three elegant boundaries before he got out stumped by Jomel Warrican in the 92nd over of the innings.

With Towhid bringing up his own maiden Test century in the process, the two cricketers scripted Bangladesh’s highest-ever eighth-wicket partnership in Test history against the West Indies. Here is a look at three of Bangladesh’s highest eighth-wicket stands against the West Indies in Test matches.

Towhid Hridoy also ensured that his maiden Test century turned out to be a grand one for himself as well as for the Bangladesh cricket team. Batting at number four and arriving to the crease in the ninth over of the innings at 22-2, the 26-year-old guarded his end of the crease with utmost defiance.

When he crossed the 171-run mark, Hridoy notched up the record of the highest individual score in a Test match played in Sylhet. He surpassed the previous record set by Bangladesh’s Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who minted 171 runs against Ireland at the venue last year. Here is a look at some of the highest individual scores in Test history at Sylhet.
