Shubman Gill completes 3,000 ODI runs in record-breaking fashion
Shubman Gill led from the front as India began their chase of 195 runs in the rain-shortened 25-over contest against Afghanistan in Dharamshala. Despite losing Rohit Sharma after a struggling stay, Gill kept the chase firmly on track.
The opener entered the match with 2,953 ODI runs from 61 innings and required 47 more to reach the milestone. He got there in the 12th over while scoring a fluent half-century, becoming the fastest Indian to 3,000 ODI runs.
India opted to bowl first in the rain-shortened ODI, but Afghanistan posted a competitive 194 thanks to a brilliant century from Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Chasing 195 to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, India looked towards Gill for inspiration.
