In a fantastic knock, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer smashed a blazing half-century against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 17th game of the IPL 2026 season. That knock helped him unlock a special milestone.
Batting first, SRH posted a giant total of 219 runs on the board. Out of these, the first 100 runs came in the powerplay itself. However, PBKS didn’t shy away from the chase and started hitting with intent from the word go.

Chasing 220 runs, Punjab Kings got a blazing start from Priyansh Arya (57) and Prabhsimran Singh (51), who put 93 runs in the powerplay, almost similar to what SRH did in the first innings.
Then came Shreyas Iyer. The PBKS captain didn’t slow down or take his own sweet time to settle in. Instead, he batted with intent and hammered 69* off just 33 balls with 5 fours and as many sixes.
With this innings, Iyer now has 5 fifties against SRH, placing him among an elite group of players who have consistently performed against the franchise.

PBKS give SRH a taste of their own medicine
Chasing a daunting 220, the Punjab Kings needed something special, and they got it from their captain. But before Shreyas Iyer took over, the foundation was laid in breathtaking fashion by Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh.
The duo tore into the SRH bowling attack, racing to 99 in just 6.2 overs and ensuring the required rate never spiralled out of control.
However, as wickets began to fall, the chase entered a tricky phase. That’s when Iyer stepped in, not with panic, but with precision.
At the other end, Nehal Wadhera provided brief support, but it was Shreyas Iyer who held the innings together. And when the game demanded a final push, Shashank Singh chipped in with a crucial cameo, allowing the skipper to finish the job in style.
Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 69 off just 33 balls, striking at over 200, as Punjab crossed the line with seven balls to spare.
SRH failed to capitalise on a good start
Earlier in the evening, Sunrisers Hyderabad had looked set to run away with the game thanks to a blistering start from Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head.
The pair powered SRH to a staggering 105 in the powerplay, with Abhishek smashing 74 off just 28 balls. However, Hyderabad wasted the good start, and their run rate dipped in the middle order.

Heinrich Klaasen scored 39 at an 118.18 strike rate, while Aniket Verma scored 18 off 9 balls. Owing to this dip, SRH couldn’t finish at 250 and settled for 219 runs, which eventually proved to be not good enough.
