Royal Challengers Bengaluru sustained their dream run in the IPL 2026, as they registered their second successive win in the tournament. Led by Rajat Patidar, RCB crushed arch-rivals CSK by 43 runs, adding two more points to their tally.

Swashbuckling batter Tim David played a pivotal role in the Royal Challengers' phenomenal win over the Super Kings.

After Phil Salt and Devdutt Padikkal set the foundation with scintillating knocks, Tim David formed a blistering 99-run partnership with captain Rajat Patidar, propelling his team to 250 runs in 20 overs.

The destructive batter smashed 70 runs off just 25 deliveries, thereby achieving a never-seen-before record in IPL history.

Most runs by a batter in death overs in an IPL innings: Tim David creates history

After winning the toss, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad invited RCB to bat first at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. While Virat Kohli rode his luck to score 28 runs, Phil Salt looked sublime for a 30-ball 46.

The in-form Devdutt Padikkal once again played a game-breaking knock, scoring 50 runs off just 29 deliveries. As the southpaw was dismissed by Jamie Overton in the 15th over, Tim David joined skipper Patidar in the middle.

Rajat Patidar raced to 48 runs in just 19 balls, while Tim David stunned the Super Kings with his fireworks. The Australian batter showcased remarkable power-hitting skills, contributing 70 runs with the help of three boundaries and eight gigantic sixes.

Apart from leaving the Super Kings shell-shocked with his stroke-play, Tim David achieved a rare record in the IPL.

As he scored 68 of 70 runs in the final four overs, David registered a sensational landmark of the most runs in the slog overs in a single IPL innings. His 68 off 20 is now the most impactful knock in the slog overs in IPL history.

Coming at number five, David could score two runs off his first five deliveries. However, he was able to break the shackles and ensure a fitting finish for RCB, exhibiting commendable skills in the last four overs.

He began his onslaught in the seventeenth over, when he smashed Noor Ahmad for three consecutive sixes. The Australian batter further went on to collect 13 runs off Anshul Kamboj, hitting the CSK pacer for a boundary and a six.

The nineteenth over of Jamie Overton was the most productive for David, as he hammered the Englishman for four sixes and a boundary, collecting 30 runs off his bowling. He finished the innings with a boundary, thereby scoring 68 runs off 20 balls in the last four overs.

RCB to face in-form Rajasthan Royals next

After swatting aside SRH and CSK comfortably, RCB are getting ready to take on the in-form Rajasthan Royals in their third group-stage fixture.

Both teams have won two matches each, and therefore, a cracking contest is expected when they face each other at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on April 10.
