RCB's jibe at MS Dhoni [Source: Royal Challengers Bengaluru]
On Sunday night in Bengaluru, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru picked up their fourth consecutive win over the southern rivals, Chennai Super Kings, with a comfortable margin of 43 runs.
With the win, RCB went to the top of the table with four points, while CSK went to the bottom of the table with three consecutive losses.
Unlike the previous three successive losses, the former CSK skipper, MS Dhoni, was absent from the playing XI, nursing a calf strain.
Despite his absence from the field, MS Dhoni remains synonymous with CSK, 19th year running, and the opponent did not miss an opportunity to bring him up as they celebrated the win on social media.
RCB takes a jibe at MS Dhoni after big win over CSK; Fans left furious
At the 9.5 over mark, while CSK was trying to chase a 251-run target, Abhinandan Singh bowled a back-of-a-length delivery outside the off stump to the explosive Shivam Dube. The left-handed batter cleared his front leg to smash the ball to the leg side but edged it to the wicketkeeper.
However, the ball swirled away from Jitesh Sharma behind the stumps and kept dipping till it reached him. Jitesh took a sensational catch, diving towards his right and sent Dube packing for 18 off 13 balls, leaving CSK 108/6 at the halfway mark.
Moments later, the RCB social media team did not miss their chance to take a slight dig at the CSK fans on their social media. They took to their official Twitter (X) account and tweeted the video of the brilliant catch writing, “Ek tha jo wicket ke piche se….”
The captioned line, “Ek tha jo wicket ke piche se [match badal deta tha]” is famously used by MS Dhoni and Indian cricket fans as a tribute to the captaincy and wicketkeeping brilliance that the legend brought to the game during his prime years. It translates to, “There was a man who used to turn the matches from behind the wickets.”

CSK’s wait for MS Dhoni’s return continues
Ahead of CSK’s season opener against the Rajasthan Royals at home, it was officially announced by the CSK social media handle that MS Dhoni had suffered a calf strain and would be out from the initial set of fixtures.
MS Dhoni has notably also not travelled with the team on the away trips to Guwahati and Bengaluru.
However, he was seen back in the nets, doing light training ahead of the RCB clash. Additionally, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also provided an update on him during the toss, indicating his return to the field sooner rather than later.
Up next, they will face the Delhi Capitals on Saturday at home, and it will be interesting to see whether Dhoni returns in time to play the game.
CSK looks for spirited comeback in IPL 2026
Having finished the last IPL at the bottom of the table, CSK has started IPL 2026 in the worst possible way, losing three in three and also having the worst net run rate so far.
With several important players sustaining injuries ahead of the tournament, CSK needed to find solutions in backups and youngsters.
Now they will have five days to rest and recoup from the early setback in the competition before they play two matches at home. They could also have Dewald Brevis back in the XI by Saturday, which could play a part in them regaining some momentum.
