Team India suffered yet another demoralizing defeat, this time against England in the second T20I of their five-match series. After losing 0-2 in Ireland and on a trail of a washout in Durham earlier this week, the ‘Men in Blue’ failed to defend 191 runs against England despite pinning the hosts down at 1-2 at one stage.

While Axar Patel conceded just 20 runs from his four fighting overs, fast bowler Arshdeep Singh and ace spinner Ravi Bishnoi leaked exactly 100 runs from their combined eight overs. Bishnoi, in particular, took a heavy beating on the day at Old Trafford in Manchester at the hands of hosts as the 25-year-old concluded with expensive figures of 0-60.

Accounting for nearly a third of England’s total in the game, the leg-spinner also conceded one of the most expensive overs by any Indian bowler in T20I history.

Ravi Bishnoi bowls most expensive over by an Indian spinner

After conceding 31 runs in his first three overs of the England run chase, India spinner Ravi Bishnoi leaked 29 runs off his final six deliveries. Tasked to bowl the 17th over of the England innings, the cricketer started off with a no-ball to Sam Curran.

Jacob Bethell took full toll of the spinner’s misery by dispatching a huge six next up over cow corner. Another no ball was succeeded by yet another free-hit six, again by Bethell to bring up a 39-ball fifty.

The young Englishman launched one more boundary and a six off the next three balls, before a desperate diving attempt from Arshdeep Singh saved two runs to end the over. Overall, Ravi Bishnoi’s 29-run final over brought down England’s equation from requiring 59 off four overs to 20 from the final three overs.

Bishnoi has now bowled the most expensive over by Indian spinner in T20I history. Overall, he delivered the third most expensive over by Indians behind fast bowlers Shivam Dube and Stuart Binny.

Interestingly, Arshdeep Singh also leaked 27 runs off his second over earlier in the same game to fall in the dreadful list. Here is a look at most runs conceded by an Indian bowler in a single T20I over.

Most Runs Conceded by an Indian Bowler in an Over in T20Is:

  • 34 - Shivam Dube vs New Zealand, Mount Maunganui, 2020
  • 32 - Stuart Binny vs West Indies, Lauderhill, 2016
  • 29 - Ravi Bishnoi vs England, Manchester, 2026, Today*

Fans react as Ravi Bishnoi’s record over tilts it in favour of England

As one can expect, fans were quick to react to Bishnoi’s forgettable game against England. Several Indian cricket fans took to X and urged the team management to drop the ace leg-spinner.

India goes 0-1 down in five-match series

England doused India by four wickets with an over to spare at Old Trafford in Manchester. Jacob Bethell punched out a match-winning 76* off just 46 balls as the hosts went 1-0 up in the five-match series.

India and England will now face each other in the third T20I of the series on July 7 in Nottingham.
