Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his much-awaited international debut against England in India’s second T20I of the tour. The 15-year-old was named in India’s playing XI in place of World Cup winner Sanju Samson at the top of the order.

While Sooryavanshi started off his innings on a cracking note against Jofra Archer, the youngster failed to make the most of his maiden outing in international cricket. As it happened, the blistering opener was dismissed for just 14 off 10 balls, by England’s part-time spinner Will Jacks no less.

Fans react as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi goes for just 14

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hit two huge sixes on his international debut, and he raced to a 50-run partnership with Abhishek Sharma in less than five overs. However, inside the powerplay itself, the 15-year-old got stumped by England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler off part-timer Will Jacks.

The youngster eventually made his way back to the dugout for just 14 off 10 balls. As one can expect, his dismissal sparked a wave of reactions from Indian cricket fans on social media.

Many fans trolled the 15-year-old for failing to carry his rich IPL 2026 form onto the international stage for Team India. Some fans even mocked the youngster for failing to perform on ‘non-IPL pitches’ in England. Here is a look at how some of the fans reacted to Sooryavanshi’s flop international debut.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scripts history with debut

The Rajasthan Royals opener also scripted history by making his debut. The cricketer became the youngest Indian player to play international cricket for the country, doing so at the age of just 15 years and 99 days.

He surpassed the previous record set by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who made his international debut way back in late 1989 with a match in Pakistan.

It is worth noting that Sooryavanshi was selected in Team India squad by the BCCI for the T20I tours of Ireland and England, after he won the coveted Orange Cap in the IPL 2026 season. The teenage batting sensation also bulldozed Sri Lanka A bowlers next up during the tri-series final.

India motor towards 150-run mark

After the opening washout in Chester-le-Street earlier this week, India won the toss and opted to bat first in the second T20I on Saturday, July 4 at Old Trafford in Manchester.

While Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made just 14 off 10 balls, his partner Abhishek Sharma slapped an electrifying 24-ball 43. Captain Shreyas Iyer scored the crucial runs at number four while wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan took a cautious approach during his partnerships with the skipper.

Shivam Dube failed to turbo-charge the Indian innings in the slog overs as the hard-hitting all-rounder was dismissed for just five off seven balls by senior pro Sam Curran. At the time of publishing, the visitors reached 146-4 in 16 overs.
