In a show of power, England captain Harry Brook completely destroyed Arshdeep Singh by smashing 27 runs off his third over in the powerplay of the second T20I against India held at Old Trafford in Manchester.

The match began with India winning the toss and opting to bat first. Courtesy of blazing knocks from Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, the men in blue posted a fighting total of 190 runs on the board.

Harry Brook humbles Arshdeep Singh

Meanwhile, India had a perfect start in the second innings as left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh removed Phil Salt on a golden duck. He also got rid of Jos Buttler and was flying high with confidence.

However, England skipper Harry Brook destroyed his confidence in just one over. He pulled Arshdeep over midwicket for a massive six before launching the next delivery straight over long-on with effortless timing.

The skipper capped off the over by whipping a low full toss behind square for yet another maximum. Although Axar Patel attempted a stunning relay catch near the boundary, the ball landed on the cushions, confirming Brook's third six of the over.

In the space of six deliveries, Arshdeep leaked 27 runs, one of the most expensive overs of the match, as Brook completely dismantled India's plans in the powerplay. This over brought England back into the game after two early blows.

Axar Patel ends Harry Brook’s carnage

Despite that expensive over, Harry Brook couldn’t sustain the momentum. In the 5th over, Axar Patel fired a length delivery down the leg side as Brook attempted a sweep.

Although the on-field umpire initially gave it not out, wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan was convinced there was a faint edge and urged captain Shreyas Iyer to review.

UltraEdge confirmed the ball had brushed Brook's glove before being safely carried to Kishan behind the stumps. The review paid off, ending Brook's explosive innings of 39 off just 15 balls.

That wicket once again shifted the momentum back into India’s favour as England lost 3 wickets inside the powerplay, with the required run rate soaring over 9 runs per over.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi fails on India debut

Having said that, earlier in the first innings, India posted 190 runs on the board. 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his highly anticipated debut but could only score 14 off 10 balls as Will Jacks ended his short stay on the crease.

But Abhishek Sharma kept the scoreboard ticking with 43 off 24 balls. Later, Ishan Kishan anchored the innings with 49 off 40 balls before Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma added the final touch with 37 and 24 runs, respectively.

For England, Sam Curran picked 3 wickets for 33 runs, but Josh Tongue and Jofra Archer conceded 86 runs combined in 8 overs.
