A Hardik-less Mumbai Indians snap out of their losing streak
The IPL 2026 season was turning out to be a disastrous tournament for the Mumbai Indians as they lost 7 out of their first 9 games, thus dropping to the ninth position on the points table.
However, on May 3, things changed. Captain Hardik Pandya sat out due to undisclosed illness, and Suryakumar Yadav stepped up as stand-in captain. Not only that, Rohit Sharma returned after a long injury layoff.
And suddenly, MI batted with intent. Despite a huge total to chase, there was no scoreboard pressure as Rohit and Rickelton took on LSG’s bowling unit with confidence.
That being said, the road to glory is still very far-fetched for the Mumbai Indians. Despite this victory, they are still stuck at the 9th position due to fewer points and a poor net run rate.
To qualify for the playoffs, MI will need a serious miracle from here on. Not only do they have to win all their games, but they also rely on other matches to somehow crack a chance at the playoffs.
