History was rewritten on Sunday night in Ahmedabad when India became the first team in the world to win a second consecutive T20 World Cup title, that too, on home soil. The men in blue thrashed New Zealand by 96 runs in the final of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, defending the coveted silverware.

Most notably, it was a historic feat for head coach Gautam Gambhir, who became the only person to win the title as a player as well as a Head Coach.

However, the 44-year-old dedicated the win to former India teammates - Rahul Dravid, the previous India head coach, BCCI CoE chief VVS Laxman, chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, and ICC chair Jay Shah. The head coach also praised captain Suryakumar Yadav for working in tandem with him.
