When Saransh Jain bowled a no-ball while coming to attack against Keshara Nuwantha during the 73rd over of Sri Lanka’s second innings, it became the 11th no-ball of the match from India’s bowling unit in the ongoing Test match in Colombo. Of them, 10 were bowled by spinners alone, while one was bowled by a pacer, Mohammed Siraj.

In the process, India’s spin attack, consisting of Saransh Jain, Ravindra Jadeja and Manav Suthar, entered a list that they would never be proud of.

Important to mention that Suthar has not bowled a single no-ball in the entire IND vs SL 2nd Test so far. Jadeja and Jain, on the other hand, bowled four and six no-balls respectively.

India’s Spin Attack Ranks 3rd For Most No-Balls In A Test This Decade

In the list of most no-balls in a Test match since 2021, India’s spin attack now finds itself in third place. Only Afghanistan and India, in different times in different venues, had a worse record than them.

Most No-Balls In A Test Since 2021

  • 15 - AFG vs BAN, Mirpur, 2023
  • 14 - IND vs ENG, Chennai, 2021
  • 10* - IND vs SL, Colombo SSC, 2026
  • 9 - SL vs WI, North Sound, 2021
  • 9 - IND vs NZ, Mumbai WS, 2024

Given that India still have four wickets to take and there is still a day’s play left, don’t be surprised if they even reach higher if no-balls keep happening in IND vs SL 2nd Test.

Jadeja’s No-Ball Woes Remain Talking Point

While Saransh Jain, one of the oldest Test debutants for India, is relatively new to the national set-up, it has been a while since Jadeja came under constant criticism over no-ball concerns.

To highlight more, Jadeja is way above everyone in terms of most no-balls by spinners in Tests in this decade.

Most No-Balls By Spinners In Tests Since 2021

  • 88* - Ravindra Jadeja
  • 40 - Noman Ali
  • 33 - Lasith Embuldeniya
  • 19 - Jack Leach
  • 17 - Jomel Warrican
  • 17 - Zahir Khan

Jadeja's Wicket Turned Down In Galle For No Ball

Recently in Galle, where India and Sri Lanka met in the first Test, Jadeja took the wicket of Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva. However, it was turned down after the replay confirmed Jadeja had overstepped while bowling the wicket delivery.

Everyone, including Ravindra Jadeja, was left frustrated after what happened. And the way things are going, India must address this subject if they want to keep themselves alive for the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) final race.

On the WTC table, India are fifth on the chart, with five wins, four defeats and a draw, keeping their PCT at a below-par 53.33.
