The European T20 Premier League (ETPL 2026), the inaugural edition of the six-team franchise cricket competition, is set to run from August 26 to September 20, featuring clubs from Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands.

The six teams competing at ETPL 2026 are Amsterdam Flames, Rotterdam Dockers, Belfast Wolves, Dublin Guardians, Edinburgh Castle Rockers and Glasgow Cosmic.

Europe’s first franchise-based ICC-approved T20 league is said to help cricket establish a stronger foothold, providing an Indian Premier League-like platform to the region’s emerging talent.

Notably, the league will feature 16 local players each from the Netherlands, Ireland, and Scotland. Apart from that, the maiden edition will also feature numerous prominent active and retired players from around the world.

Some of the most notable names to participate in the ETPL 2026 are: Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Faf du Plessis, Heinrich Klassen, and many more. On top of that, the league will also feature a few retired Indian players who have already established their names on the world stage.

Along the same lines, in this article, check out which Indian players are participating in the inaugural season of the European T20 Premier League and explore their individual stats in franchise cricket.

1) Ajinkya Rahane - Amsterdam Flames

In July 2026, one of the most technically sound batters, Ajinkya Rahane, announced his retirement from all forms of competitive cricket, closing the curtain on a distinguished career defined by selflessness and poise.

However, his retirement from Indian cricket opened newer doors for Rahane.

The very next month, the former India batter was signed by the Mitchell Marsh-led Amsterdam Flames to play in the ETPL 2026.

Talking about Rahane, in an era of mindless hitting, Ajinkya Rahane’s batting is defined by precision, delayed wristwork, and exceptional judgement of the ball.

Rather than relying on brute force, Rahane neutralises high-pace bowling attacks through soft hands and exquisite back-foot placement.

His textbook batting technique has yielded Rahane 5,367 runs in the Indian Premier League across stints with franchises such as the Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Rising Pune Supergiants, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Apart from that, Rahane finished as the top run-scored of the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) season, while playing for Rajasthan Royals. His stellar performance at the top of the order played a vital role in carrying the Rajasthan Royals deep into the tournament.

Here are Ajinkya Rahane’s stats in IPL and CLT20:

2) Ravichandran Ashwin - Dublin Guardians

Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin joined the likes of Faf du Plessis, Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith and Tim David as a direct signing for the inaugural season of the European T20 Premier League.

Ashwin will double up as Dublin Guardians' captain and mentor. Ashwin, now 39, had announced his IPL retirement at the end of the 2025 season and he was last seen in action for San Francisco Unicorns in MLC 2026 in the USA.

R Ashwin was picked by Chennai Super Kings in the IPL in 2009 and was one of the rare players who came into the public's reckoning through the IPL and proved himself capable of great success in Test cricket.

He spent six seasons at CSK, winning the title twice, bowling at the top and the death, and coming on when wickets were required. He was the Man of the Series in the 2010 Champions League in South Africa.

In his 17-year IPL career, Ashwin, apart from CSK, played for teams such as Rising Pune Supergiants, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals.

After retiring from the IPL in August 2025, Ashwin opened a new chapter in global leagues. He joined the San Francisco Unicorns to play in Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States.

Later, he was also signed by the Sydney Thunder as the first male Indian player to join a BBL franchise for the 2026 edition. However, he was ruled out of the entire tournament after undergoing knee surgery following an injury sustained during training in Chennai.

3) Vijay Shankar - Dublin Guardians

Vijay Shankar, the seam-bowling allrounder who played 21 white-ball games for India across 2018 and 2019, retired from domestic cricket and the IPL on May 22, 2026. This move allowed the 35-year-old to play in overseas franchise leagues.

He played 78 IPL games from 2014 to 2025, representing Chennai Super Kings (two stints), Sunrisers Hyderabad (two stints), Delhi Capitals, and Gujarat Titans.

He went unsold at the IPL 2026 auction in December, after registering as an uncapped player, with more than five years having elapsed since his last international appearance.

Nonetheless, after his IPL retirement, Shankar made his Lanka Premier League debut when Kandy Royals signed the Indian all-rounder as one of their marquee players for the 2026 season.

Once again, the former India all-rounder is set to play in yet another franchise league, ETPL, after being signed by Dublin Guardians, marking his second franchise T20 league stint since retiring from the IPL.

In Europe, Vijay will reunite with his former Chennai Super Kings and domestic team-mate R Ashwin, who has been appointed captain and mentor of Dublin. Former India captain and T20 World Cup-winning coach Rahul Dravid is the co-owner of the Dublin franchise in the ETPL.
