Mohammed Siraj suffered a horrific ribcage injury on Wednesday during Day 4 of the 2nd Test between India and Sri Lanka, taking place at Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo.
The development happened after Siraj landed heavily after trying to grab a catch off Pasindu Sooriyabandara while stretching forward from the deep square leg region, and spilt it out before hitting his rib cage on the Colombo turf.
Team India’s physio came out immediately after to check how serious Mohammed Siraj’s injury was. All India players hurdled around Siraj during this period before the India’s fast bowler, who was in serious pain, was advised to leave the ground.
How Mohammed Siraj Suffered A Ribcage Injury
It all happened during the 11th over of Sri Lanka’s second innings, when Pasindu Sooriyabandara tried to attack Manav Suthar. Sooriyabandara had made up his mind earlier to play a slog-sweep, while Suthar held his length to make his life difficult.
As a result, Sooriyabandara could only find a huge top edge, and Siraj, as explained above, did as much as he could before dropping the tough chance.

Injured Siraj Didn't Bowl Before Day 4 Lunch
Even though Siraj came back to the field after the ribcage injury, India captain Shubman Gill did not ask him to roll his arms till the lunch was taken.
Siraj came back during the 17th over of Sri Lanka’s innings, and there were five more overs before the on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sharfuddoula Saikat asked the players to take a break for lunch.
Before picking up the injury, Siraj drew first blood for India, as Lahiru Udara became his victim. Kamil Mishara fell to Ravindra Jadeja next after an attacking 39-ball 32.
In total, Siraj bowled three overs and gave up only seven runs. He also bowled a maiden over, and the wicket came during the 2nd over of his spell.
Sooriyabandara, whom Siraj dropped before picking up the ribcage injury, is still in the middle, on 35*. He is joined by Kamindu Mendis, who is on 10*. Sri Lanka still trail by 130 runs, with the scorecard reading 83/2 after follow-on.
