Gujarat Titans bowlers script IPL history [Source: AP]
During the Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2026 between RCB and GT, the Titans' bowling unit scripted a rare season record despite going for runs in the first innings at Mullanpur, Chandigarh.
The match saw GT winning the toss and opting to field first. While they got an early breakthrough of Venkatesh Iyer, Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal stitched a steady partnership before captain Rajat Patidar took over with a heroic knock.
GT bowlers equal all-time great KKR bowling record
At the end of the first innings, RCB finished with a mammoth total of 254/5. Naturally, Gujarat Titans bowlers had a hard time on the field, as barring Jason Holder and Rashid Khan, the rest of the lineup had an economy rate exceeding 13.
Regardless, the GT bowling unit did achieve a unique season milestone. In this IPL 2026 season so far, Kagiso Rabada has grabbed 26 wickets, Rashid Khan picked 19, Mohammed Siraj got 17, while Jason Holder and Prasidh Krishna stand at 15 wickets each.
Notably, this is the second time in IPL history that five different bowlers took 15 or more wickets in a single season. This feat was previously achieved by KKR in 2024, where they won their third title.
This milestone is significant for the Gujarat Titans. In a season where their batting grabbed the headlines consistently, their bowling also did its job perfectly while flying under the radar.

Rajat Patidar takes the game away from GT
Meanwhile, GT bowlers had a rare off-day in the Qualifier 1 against RCB as captain Rajat Patidar unleashed carnage. His start looked scratchy at 15 off 11 balls.
But soon after, he delivered the greatest playoff knocks in IPL history. The right-hander hammered an unbeaten 93 off just 33 balls at a stunning strike rate of 281.81, while Krunal Pandya played the perfect supporting role with 43 off 28 balls.
The duo added a game-changing partnership as RCB powered their way to a mammoth 254/5. This is now the highest total in IPL playoff history. Needless to say, Patidar was the MVP. He smashed 9 sixes and had a strike rate of nearly 300.
Can GT weather the storm?
Interestingly, while the mega total of 245 runs looks intimidating, it’s not out of the Gujarat Titans’ reach. In the last couple of IPL seasons, teams have accomplished record chases.
And out of all teams, GT possesses the right batting strength to go hard at the total. Both openers, Sai Sudharan and Shubman Gill, have scored over 1200 runs combined this year alone.

Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar also delivered when it mattered the most to the team. Hence, on a batting-friendly surface of Dharamsala, GT will back themselves to chase it down, while RCB bowlers must absorb the pressure to fight back as well.
