Virat Kohli, one of India’s most aggressive and skilful cricketers, has hit the headlines for his verbal fight with Australian opener Travis Head during the IPL 2026 season clash between RCB and SRH.
As tempers flared, fans began criticising Kohli for showing unnecessary hostility towards Head. Many believe that the veteran Indian batter lacks maturity when it comes to upholding sportsmanship in the game.
When Kagiso Rabada talked about Kohli’s temper
Interestingly, amid this debate, an old comment from Kagiso Rabada has been going viral on social media. Back in 2019, Virat Kohli had a fight with Rabada during South Africa’s tour of India.
Reacting to the tussle, Kagiso said Kohli often sledges or celebrates aggressively after hitting boundaries, but becomes upset when opponents respond similarly. He also accused Virat of being immature.
"Virat hit me for a boundary and had a word. But then when you give it back to him, he gets angry. Maybe he does it because it gets him going, but that comes across as very immature for me. Phenomenal player but can't take the abuse," Rabada said.
This statement of the RCB star not being thick-skinned has now resurfaced, thus adding more fuel to the ongoing debate of the IPL 2026 season.
Virat Kohli is being portrayed as someone who lacks sportsmanship and is disrespectful towards the opposition.

What happened between Virat Kohli and Travis Head?
For context, during the IPL 2026 match between RCB and SRH, Virat Kohli had a heated clash with Travis Head. He made angry gestures towards the Australian opener and later refused to shake hands post-match.
This triggered a massive social media storm. While some fans slammed Kohli, a few Virat supporters started abusing Head’s wife, Jessica, on social media.
She revealed that she and her close circle were subjected to online abuse after videos of the Kohli-Head confrontation went viral on social media.
The incident reignited memories of the backlash the Head family allegedly faced after Travis Head’s match-winning century against India in the 2023 ODI World Cup final.
So far, Virat Kohli has not reacted to this controversy as he is busy preparing for the Qualifier 1 game between RCB and GT.
The hypocrisy around Virat Kohli’s aggression (Conclusion)
Virat Kohli has built his cricket identity around aggressiveness, which involves intense celebrations, chest-thumping aggression, verbal face-offs and crowd engagement.
For years, fans and commentators have praised that as passion and competitive fire that builds a winning mindset. However, when it happens in the IPL, Kohli’s behaviour suddenly becomes unsportsmanlike.
Sledging and emotional exchanges are common in elite cricket. Australians themselves historically played aggressive cricket in the past. So outrage over one IPL incident feels exaggerated.
Virat Kohli has always been like a hyper individual on the field, and his confrontations and face-offs are a part of his personality that was once widely rewarded.
