Fakhar Zaman on Thursday breached the 3000-run landmark in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) during the opening match between Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen, taking place at Gaddafi Stadium.

In the process, he closed the gap with Babar Azam, who topped the list of top-run getters in the history of the competition.

Babar is currently at the top of the run-getters chart, having made 3792 runs in 100 matches. Fakhar, on the other hand, crossed the 3000-run mark on his 98th game in the competition.

At the time of writing this, Lahore Qalandars are in control after their captain Shaheen Afridi, who helped the franchise win the title a record three times as a leader, won the toss and opted to bat first.

Lahore are 113/3 after 12.5 overs, with Bangladesh’s Parvez Hossain Emon and local boy Haseebullah Khan in the middle, on 4* and 17* respectively after Fakhar Zaman's departure. For Hyderabad, Hassan took two wickets, while Abdullah Shafique was run out after a five-ball 4.

Babar Azam To Be In Action On March 28

Nevertheless, Babar will be looking forward to improve his numbers in the Pakistan Super League when he will return to action on March 28. Peshawar Zalmi, the team whom he captains, will play RawalpindiZ, who will make their debut in the tournament.

Notably, Babar did not have a great PSL 2025 with the bat. He could only muster 288 runs across 10 matches, averaging only 36 – well below to his lofty standards. His strike rate (128.57) was not impressive either throughout the season.

Fakhar Zaman vs Babar Azam During T20 World Cup 2026

Fakhar had to fight for his place in Pakistan’s playing XI in T20 World Cup 2026. Pakistan captain Salman Agha and the team management prefered Babar ahead of him.

Unfortunately, none of them performed at their best when opportunities came, and as a result, Pakistan could not even reach the semi-finals in the competition which was later won by India.
