The mega celebration of cricket in Pakistan, the PSL 2026 has already been underway from March 26, 2026 and curiosity has been spilt over the matter that whether Indian fans would be able to watch the game live on television or not.

Fortunately, the PSL announced on March 25 that Indian fans will be able to watch it live on Tapmad TV OTT app and it sparked a series of mockery and roast from the Indian side given the fact that the Indian Premier League is also set to begin from March 28.

PSL 2026 Broadcast Banned In India

The Pakistan Super League 2026 league had its inaugural clash between Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

While viewers in Pakistan are able to enjoy the match live on their local television channels as well as OTT streaming platforms, due to geopolitical conflicts, the BCCI has effectively banned any Pakistani online streaming applications in India.

As a result, even though PSL announced that Tapmad TV would live-stream the tournament, Indian fans are unable to watch it since it has been restricted in India as of March 26.

Upon closer examination, Tapmad, a Singapore-registered streaming platform popular in Pakistan, is not officially banned in India; however, its content availability is severely restricted as it primarily caters to Pakistani audiences.

Founded in 2017, the OTT streaming application specializes in live sports, particularly cricket and football, along with live TV channels and on-demand entertainment. It hosts events like the UEFA Champions League and ICC World Cups alongside the PSL tournament.

Indian Fans Roast Tapmad Ban

Nevertheless, due to the inaccessibility of the platform, there is virtually no option available for Indian fans to watch the tournament live in India.

However, this has not stopped Indian fans from bashing and roasting the Pakistan Super League on social media, as they mocked the sudden restriction of the application following PSL's announcement to stream the tournament on it.

Let's take a look at how netizens reacted to the Tapmad TV restriction:

The Broadcasting Warfare Between India and Pakistan

While the Tapmad ban has been fodder for Indian fans to joke about, the broadcasting of cricket during geopolitical tensions is not a new affair for these two countries.

Since the partition in 1947, India and Pakistan have fought many high-intensity wars between them. However, content bans were also a subject that many rolled under the carpet.

In 1965, Pakistan imposed a blanket ban on Indian films that lasted nearly 40 years, until 2005. While not selectively related to cricket, India then banned Pakistani television during the Kargil War in 1999. After a sweet period of almost 11 years, Pakistan again banned all Indian television and radio content following the Uri and Pulwama attacks.

In May 2025, the Indian government issued an advisory to OTT platforms and streaming services to remove all Pakistan-origin content, including films, web series, and songs, citing national security.

The Pakistan Broadcasters Association also removed Indian songs from Pakistani radio stations. Pakistani YouTube channels and social media handles of all Pakistani stars have also been eliminated or restricted by the Indian government so that Indian fans cannot view the accounts.

Hence, the long-blown content war has been a matter of subject since 1947, and with no improvement in conditions, this PSL 2026 ban like others is to continue for long.
