It is not an understatement to say that Deepti Sharma is the most underrated bowler in world cricket. She quietly goes about her business and goes under the radar, as not a lot of people talk about her ability to pick wickets at big stages.

Even in Women’s cricket, when we talk about genuine wicket-takers, Deepti’s name hardly comes forward, but the reality is, she is one of the best in the business, and on Sunday, the Indian all-rounder created world record to become the greatest bowler in Women’s cricket.

Most wickets in Women's internationals: Deepti Sharma sits at the top

Beth Mooney, the Australian batter, was going strong in the run-chase against India in the Women’s T20 World Cup match. India desperately needed a breakthrough, and Deepti raised her hands as she plucked the all-important wicket and created history.

She became the Women’s cricketer with the most wickets in international cricket, as she surpassed the previous record held by her former teammate, Jhulan Goswami.

Most International Wickets in Women’s Cricket:

356* - Deepti Sharma (India)

355 - Jhulan Goswami (India)

336 - Ellyse Perry (Australia)

Deepti needed just a solitary scalp to break the record held by Goswami, and Mooney's wicket made her the greatest bowler in Women's internationals.

Jhulan had 355 scalps to her name, and now she has slipped to second place. The third spot in the list is occupied by the Australian legend, Ellyse Perry, who has 336 wickets to her name.

In the 50-overs format, the wily spinner has registered 166 wickets, but it is in the T20Is that she has been the best in the business.

In the T20Is, the spinner has picked up 167 wickets, with an average of 19.86, and an economy of 6.34. These performances have certainly cemented Deepti as the best in the business.
