As things stand, the India Women are currently in a must-win situation to secure a spot in the semi-finals if they want to stay alive in the World Cup race.
Meanwhile, Australia have already qualified and are playing this match as a dead rubber, only serving as an obstacle in the Women in Blue's race to the semi-finals.
India Women Give Tough Challenge To Australia
India Women recovered well after a steady start to post 170/4 in their 20 overs against Australia in their crucial Women's T20 World Cup 2026 clash at Lord's.
Openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma once again gave India a solid foundation with a 66-run opening partnership.
Shafali scored 34 off 26 balls with three fours and two sixes before Sophie Molineux dismissed her. Mandhana continued to anchor the innings with 38 runs off 37 deliveries before she was run out by Lucy Hamilton.
Jemimah Rodrigues added another useful contribution with 34 runs before retiring out in the final over as India looked for more power-hitting. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur then produced the innings that lifted India to a competitive total. She smashed 56 off just 27 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes at a strike rate above 200.
Virat Kohli's England ODIs Prospect
Virat Kohli's appearance at Lord's meanwhile, comes amid his recovery ahead of India's ODI series against England next month. The former India captain has already been named in the ODI squad, although his selection remains subject to fitness after suffering a hamstring injury during the IPL 2026 final.
Kohli has spent the last few weeks at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru completing his rehabilitation programme.
Reports have suggested that he has cleared his fitness tests, but he was recently spotted once again at the CoE a few days back, leading to speculation that he is still undergoing the final phase of his recovery.
With the England ODI series approaching, Kohli’s Lord’s appearance might signal a green light for the fans, hinting a positive recovery arc for the India star.
