An attacking left-handed wicket-keeper batswoman, Mooney jotted staggering numbers before making her debut for the national side in 2016. She made her Womenâs National Cricket League debut in the 20019/10 season, but rose to prominence in the 2012 season, scoring four-half centuries and averaged nearly 45 in the entire tournament.
Three years down the line, she signed for Yorkshire and played a stellar role in taking her side to win the title. With Alyssa Healy doing the work behind the stumps, Mooney had to patiently wait for her opportunity.
An injury to Healy in 2016 allowed Mooney to finally make her T20I debut against India. Mooney scored a run-a-ball 36, but Indian Women won the match eventually.
The following year she made her maiden ODI century against the Kiwis.
The attacking player was included in the Aussie squad for the 2017 Womenâs Ashes series
In the same year, Mooney won both the inaugural ICC T20I 'Player of the Year' and the 'Emerging Player of the Year' awards.
Mooneyâs stock rose in the 2020 Womenâs T20 World Cup. In Australiaâs match against Bangladesh, Mooney, alongside Alyss Healy, shared an opening partnership of 151 runs, the highest partnership for Australia Women for any wicket in a World T20I match. She finished the tournament with 259 runs and was declared the player of the tournament as Australia clinched the World title.
Post the 2020 World Cup, Mooney became the number 1 player in T20Is.
An excellent T20 player, Mooney has become one of the best white-ball womenâs players in the world. She rose to the limelight at a very young age and since then has not looked back.
