Team India Women suffered a major blow during the slog overs of their innings against Australia in match number 30 of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. With Jemimah Rodrigues struggling to get her timing right, the senior cricketer was forced to retire herself ‘out’ at the end of the 19th over of the innings.
It is worth that Rodrigues, who plundered a match-winning century against Australia last year during the 2025 World Cup, composed just 34 from 28 balls this time around at the iconic Lord’s in London.
Jemimah Rodrigues retires out to boost Indian innings in selfless display
Jemimah Rodrigues, batting at number three for India Women, punched out just 34 runs from 28 balls with one boundary and a six against Australia in match 30 of the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.

Maintaining a strike rate of just 121.42, the cricketer struggled to push the accelerator even during the slog overs of the Indian innings in their must-win Group 1 game.
Rodrigues has now become only the third cricketer in the history of a Women’s T20 World Cup match to be ‘retired out’. Interestingly, all three instances have occurred in the ongoing 2026 edition of the tournament itself. Here is a look at a list of all players who have been retired out in Women’s T20 World Cup matches.

India mounts 170-4 after Harmanpreet Kaur’s fury
Even though Jemimah Rodrigues struggled to get going, Team India still ended up mounting a formidable total of 170-4 from 20 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat first. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur blasted 56 runs off just 27 balls with six cracking boundaries and three huge sixes at Lord’s.
The senior batter launched three of those sixes in succession in the final over to turbo charge the Indian innings at the death.
Earlier, opener Smriti Mandhana also compiled 38 off 37 balls, but the cricketer got run out owing to a mix-up with Rodrigues. Shafali Verma listed 34 from 26 balls with three boundaries and two sixes.
For Australia, captain Sophie Molineux picked up two wickets, albeit at an expense of 46 runs from her four overs.
India takes early wickets in must-win World Cup game
Senior India pacer Renuka Singh Thakur struck early for her side with the huge wicket of Australia opener Georgia Voll in the first over of the innings. Defending 171 for a win, Phoebe Litchfield also got her stay curtailed by in-form Shree Charani for 24.
The match marks a must-win for the Indian Women’s team, in a bid to qualify for the semifinal of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
