Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to field first against England in the third T20I of their five-match series. Team India has now won tosses in each of the three games of the ongoing series so far.

Moreover, under the leadership of Iyer, the ‘Men in Blue’ also won the toss in both matches of the preceding T20I tour of Ireland last week. With this feat, the star Indian middle-order batter has now scaled a unique record, previously achieved by no other Team India captain.

Shreyas Iyer remains unbeaten in toss as captain

Last month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named Shreyas Iyer as Team India captain, replacing T20 World Cup winning skipper Suryakumar Yadav in the process.

Iyer’s initial assignment was to oversee Team India squad in their seven-match T20I tour of Ireland and England across June and July. Under his leadership, the Indian cricket team won the toss in each of its first five matches of the tour, including both against Ireland and in the first three games against England

The 31-year-old has now become the first India men’s captain to win the toss five times in a row since starting out as national skipper in T20Is.

Shreyas Iyer yet to win a match since becoming captain

Shreyas Iyer is also yet to notch up a single win for Team India since becoming national T20I captain, to mark a completely contrasting record in an aspect that matters the most. Despite enjoying the toss advantage, Iyer’s Indian cricket team has fallen short against Ireland (twice) and England (once) so far on the tour.

After collapsing to a shambolic 0-2 series loss in Ireland, the first T20I of the series in England yielded a no-result after the English chase got washed out due to rains. In the second T20I, England batters Jacob Bethell and Harry Brook made a mockery of India’s strong 190-run total, with the former notching up a regal 76* off 46 balls.

Having suffered three losses in four matches, Shreyas Iyer’s leadership is now on the verge of attaining a huge unwanted record, previously scaled by no other Indian skipper. If India manages to lose the third T20I of the series against England, the occasion will mark the first-ever instance of the ‘Men in Blue’ going five T20I matches without notching up a win.

India bowls first, Prince Yadav replaces Ravi Bishnoi

Indian captain won the toss and opted to field first. The skipper also confirmed one change in the Indian playing XI, with tearaway paceman Prince Yadav replacing struggling spinner Ravi Bishnoi.

It is worth noting that just a couple of days ago, Bishnoi leaked 29 runs off his final over, one which tilted the game in England’s favour. Here is a look at India’s complete playing XI for the third T20I against England.

India playing XI: Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan (wk), Shreyas Iyer (c), Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy and Prince Yadav.
