Born on June 17, 2002, Mayank Yadav is a specialist right-arm medium-fast bowler and right-handed batter from Delhi. He made his List A debut for Delhi in the 2021 Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT).
Before making his debut, the bowling all-rounder was playing Division A tournaments organised by DDCA. After brilliant performances there, Yadav got the opportunity to represent Delhi in VHT. He has the ability to swing the ball both ways, and that’s what makes this young man very special.
Yadav made his debut against Haryana in the VHT in Chandigarh, where he picked 3 wickets and was very accurate with his line and length. The Delhi-born and bred went on to play another game that season, in which he bagged a three-for against Saurashtra. Overall, it was a great outing for the Delhi-based bowler in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) in the initial stages of his career.
Impressive performance in the List A encounters has now opened the doors for Yadav to showcase his talent in the grandest T20 league, as he was bought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the base price of INR 20 lakhs in IPL 2024.
Mayank Yadav IPL Career
Mayank Yadav made a sensational IPL debut for LSG against Punjab Kings on March 30, 2024, at Lucknow. He clocked speeds over 155 kph, finishing with figures of 3/27. He was named Player of the Match in his debut and followed it with another, becoming the first player in IPL history to do so in their first two games.
Playing 4 matches, the 21-year-old finished the tournament with 7 wickets and a highly impressive economy under 7. Moreover, his raw, express pace and ability to aggressively hit the deck earned him the much-deserved hype in his maiden IPL season.
He translated this national hype into an international call-up, making his T20I debut for India against Bangladesh in October 2024.
Mayank Yadav’s struggle with injuries
This young fast bowler’s promising career has been severely hindered by recurring back injuries, including a stress fracture and a subsequent injury after his international debut, which caused him to miss the 2024-25 domestic season.
He also suffered a unique toe infection in early 2025 that set back his recovery, leading to his absence from IPL 2025 and a prolonged, over-a-year-long rehabilitation process at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
