Just over a week after Steve Smith’s maiden PSL century, where he got a blistering 106 (50) against the Hyderabad Kingsmen, the star batter with Multan Sultans faced the opposition again in the playoff fixture of PSL 2026.

However, this time around, playing in the all-important Eliminator, the tables turned for Smith as he got out cheaply, leaving his team on the brink of elimination from the tournament. Having already missed out on the top-2 finish from an achievable position, the early dismissal got to the Aussie star player and his frustration was caught on camera.

Watch- Steve Smith left fuming vs Hyderabad Kingsmen

The incident happened at the end of the third over in the first innings after the Hyderabad Kingsmen put Multan Sultans to bat first.

Having scored a century in their last encounter, Smith’s contributions at the top of the order remained instrumental in the Multan Sultans moving ahead in the tournament. He was also given a lease of life by Maaz Sadaqat earlier in the over by dropping him at 7*(7).

However, at 2.6, Mohammad Ali bowled a hard length delivery, and Smith gave it a full swing, looking to clear the square leg boundary. This time, Maaz Sadaqat did not make any mistakes and took a good catch running forward. Multan Sultans’ early collapse began at 28/1 in 3 overs, and at the end of the powerplay, they were 47/3.

Upon returning to the dressing room, Smith, who is known to be very critical of his own batting, was left fuming as he smashed his bat and was caught by the broadcasters.

Smith leaves a mark on his maiden PSL season

In pursuit of the Olympic 2028 dream, Steve Smith is currently on a mission to play as much T20 cricket as possible, after being sidelined from the national setup for a while. Following a successful Ashes in the Australian summer, he reached the BBL final with Sydney Sixers, scoring 299 runs in 6 innings at 167.97.

Backing up his two fifties and a century in BBL 2025/26, Smith racked up 380 runs in 11 innings of the PSL 2026 season for the Multan Sultans, scoring two fifties and a hundred and batted at a strike rate of 161.70.

After the innings in the Eliminator, he is the Sultans’ joint top run-getter alongside opening partner Sahibzada Farhan’s 380 runs in 10 innings at 166.66.

Multan Sultans on cusp of crushing PSL 2026 exit

The Multan Sultans started the season with four wins in the first five matches and were among the top-2 teams on the points table for the majority of PSL 2026.

However, in the second half of the league stage, they only won two matches. In their last two matches, they only needed one win to secure the Qualifier spot in the top-2; however, the defeats against the Hyderabad Kingsmen and Islamabad United meant they finished third on the table.

Despite Smith’s heroics in the league games, they find themselves 86/6 at the end of 12 overs in the Eliminator. If nothing dramatic happens in the second innings, they could be on their way out. Hyderabad Kingsmen, led by Marnus Labuschagne, could be facing Islamabad United in Eliminator 2 to find a place in the final against the Peshawar Zalmi.
