Punjab Kings get hailed for record run-chase [Source: X]
Punjab Kings achieved one of the most enthralling chases in IPL history as they beat Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Fans, meanwhile, were stunned and hailed PBKS on social media.
The match started with fireworks from DC as they posted a giant total of 264/2 after KL Rahul’s brilliant knock of 152* off 64 balls. However, the chase turned out to be even more entertaining and dramatic.
PBKS hailed for the highest successful T20 chase
Punjab Kings absorbed the pressure and began the chase with aggressive intent. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya hammered 116 runs in the powerplay alone.
While they lost a couple of wickets in the middle overs, captain Shreyas Iyer stepped up to finish the business. He scored 71* off 36 balls and guided PBKS to a 6-wicket victory with 7 balls to spare.
That turned out to be the highest successful run chase in T20 history, and fans couldn’t keep calm on social media.
They hailed the Punjab Kings and Iyer for producing an unbelievable brand of cricket. Many now see PBKS as strong contenders for the IPL 2026 trophy.

PBKS break their own record
Interestingly, the Punjab Kings appear to be competing with themselves. The 265-run chase is the highest ever target achieved in T20 cricket history.
Moreover, the record was previously held by PBKS when they chased down 262 runs against KKR in IPL 2024. Apart from this, the game had 33 sixes, which is among the most ever in IPL history.
Overall, Punjab Kings owned the night in Delhi with an unreal storm. A total of 264 runs in T20 cricket should win a team 99 out of 100 games. But this was that one game which was destined to land in the history books.
What went wrong for the Delhi Capitals?
Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals did a fantastic job with the bat. After opting to bat first, KL Rahul (152*) and Nitish Rana (91) stitched a 220-run record partnership to power the team to 264/2.
It appeared more than enough until the Punjab Kings came out all guns blazing. For Delhi, they lost Lungi Ngidi early to a nasty injury as he had to stretch out of the field.
Auqib Nabi conceded 41 runs in 2 overs, while Mukesh Kumar got hit for 55 runs. Only Kuldeep Yadav got 2 wickets, while Axar Patel and Vipraj Nigam got a wicket each. To add to the misery, DC also dropped crucial catches.
Overall, the Delhi Capitals had no answer to the PBKS’ assault. After the strong powerplay, Punjab showed no signs of slowing down and went on to script history.
With that win, PBKS have strengthened their position at the top of the table with 5 wins in 6 games. DC, however, slipped to 6th place with 3 wins in 6 games.
