On Saturday, Delhi Capitals locked horns against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Axar Patel won the toss for the 7th straight time in IPL 2026. However, for the first time in this edition, the Capitals opted to bat first in the scorching heat.
The decision turned out to be gold as the Delhi Capitals put 100 runs on the board within 10 overs. KL Rahul was the key architect as the right-handed batter scored a 26-ball fifty. Punjab Kings had the chance to get the right-handed batter early, but Shashank Singh again hogged the headlines for dropping a catch.
Shashank Singh Drops 4 Catches In 2 Matches
Shashank Singh is going through a rough patch in the field. Notably, in PBKS’s last match against Lucknow Super Giants, the Shreyas Iyer-led side registered a comfortable win, but Shashank Singh dropped four catches in that match.
For the unversed, Shashank dropped Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran and then Mukul Choudhary’s catch in the same innings, which drew a lot of flak on social media. Notably, Ricky Ponting was very upset and eventually, Shreyas Iyer, jokingly hid Shashank’s face behind a cap during the post-match presentation to avoid facing head coach Ricky Ponting.

“Fielding hasn’t been up to our standards. We know we need to improve, especially on a good batting wicket. Hopefully, we can turn it around quickly,” remarked Ricky Ponting while speaking to Star Sports.
Punjab Kings Poor In The Field vs Delhi Capitals
Shashank Singh was not the only culprit on the field against Delhi Capitals. The likes of Priyansh Arya, Yuzvendra Chahal were also poor on field. There were several misfields, which allowed Delhi Capitals to put a mamoth total on the total.
