Bangladesh Predicted Playing XI vs West Indies [Source: AFP]
Bangladesh is all set to host West Indies in a 2-game Test series. The first Test of the same will commence on Wednesday, October 28 at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka at 9:30 AM IST.
This series will be a part of the ongoing WTC 2025-27 cycle. Bangladesh’s last Test assignment was against Afghanistan. The one-off Test ended in a draw after Afghanistan’s strong fightback in the last innings.
On the other hand, West Indies also drew their last series against Pakistan at home. Overall, both teams are returning to red-ball cricket after a break and will look to dominate.
Meanwhile, for Bangladesh, fielding a balanced playing XI is crucial. Hence, in this article, we’ll analyse their strongest starting eleven for 1st Test vs West Indies.
Top Order - Shadman Islam, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Shanto
Shadman Islam will open the innings for Bangladesh in the 1st Test against West Indies at Dhaka. He last played against Afghanistan, scoring 80 runs in 2 innings. However, against Australia, Islam put together just 46 runs in 4 innings.
Islam’s opening partner will likely be Tanzid Hasan. He scored 83 and 31 against Afghanistan. Moreover, in Australia, Hasan hammered a century, which suggests that his red-ball form is peaking.
At no. 3, skipper Najmul Shanto will walk out to bat. As for his recent form, Shanto scored 111 runs in 2 innings vs Afghanistan. He is a key anchor in the middle order that will set the tone of Bangladesh’s innings.
Middle Order - Towhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy Hasan Miraz
In the middle order, Bangladesh should trust Towhid Hriody. Despite being a white-ball specialist, Hirody has shown promise in red-ball format. In Bangladesh A tour of South Africa, he hammered an historic unbeaten knock of 350 runs.
Hence, he deserves to get his due ahead of Mominul Haque. At no. 5, Litton Das is likely to play. His recovery from hip injury is completed and all signs point towards his inclusion in the playing XI for 1st Test vs West Indies.
Another key figure in the middle order will be Mushfiqur Rahim. The 39-year-old is still giving his best on the field. In the recent Test against Afghanistan, he scored 81 runs in the second innings. Overall, in 2026, Rahim has accumulated 447 runs in 11 innings at an average of 44.7, including a hundred.
In the lower-middle order, all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will hold the fort. In 6 Test innings, he scored two half-centuries and saved Bangladesh from collapses on multiple occasions. Hence, his presence is crucial in the middle-order.
Bowlers - Taijul Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam
In a major blow, Bangladesh’s leading pacer Nahid Rana has been ruled out of the first Test against West Indies due to injury. Hence, the likes of Hasan Mahmud and Taskin Ahmed will have to make up for his absence.
Hasan, in particular, is in stellar form as he picked up a hat-trick and five-wicket-haul against Afghanistan in the last Test. He also played county cricket to prepare himself for the big assignment.
As for Taskin, he has been inconsistent. But with Nahid unavailable, Bangladesh have no choice but to trust Taskin Ahmed’s experience in the first Test.
Shoriful Islam is yet another fast bowler who can make a significant difference for Bangladesh. He didn’t play the last Test against Afghanistan and has played only 2 Test this year so far. Still, his talent and skillset cannot be undermined, especially in home conditions.
In the spin department, Taijul Islam will feature in the playing XI as a specialist spinner. He has also been inconsistent and against Afghanistan, Islam managed to get just 1 wicket. Regardless at home, Taijul Islam is expected to have a better run.
