New Zealand opener Finn Allen scripted rare history during the third T20I against India at Wellington. He completed 400 sixes in the T20 format and landed in a rare list of star players to do so.

India opted to bowl first in the 3rd T20I at Wellington. As a result, Allen walked out to open the innings for New Zealand alongside Tim Seifert. However, Seifert’s knock was limited to just 2 off 6 balls as Arshdeep Sing drew first blood.

However, on the other end, Finn Allen went all guns blazing. He hammered 2 sixes off Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s third over and later went on to attack Prince Yadav and Axar Patel.

Allen hit a total of 5 sixes in his 40 off 25 balls knock and completed 400 total sixes in his T20I career. With that, Finn Allen became the second fastest player to hit 400 T20I sixes.

The record list is topped by Andre Russell, who took 3027 balls to achieve the feat, while Allen completed the milestone in 3502 balls. Interestingly, Abhishek Sharma also ranks in the list at third place with 3513 balls.

Fastest to 400 Sixes in T20s (By Balls):

  • 3027 – Andre Russell
  • 3502 – Finn Allen
  • 3513 – Abhishek Sharma

It’s a crucial milestone for Finn Allen, who is a seasoned opener in the T20I format. In 64 T20Is played so far, the opener has accumulated 1724 runs at a strike rate of over 170, including three centuries.

And in this series, Allen has hammered 101 runs in 3 innings with 160 strike rate and 8 sixes in total. His form is definitely giving Indian bowlers a hard time.

Nitish Reddy ends Finn Allen’s carnage

Having said that, Finn Allen’s fireworks didn’t last long as he fell short of 10 runs to complete his half-century. In the 9th over, Nitish Reddy bowled a full-length delivery anticipating Allen to go for the long boundary straight down the ground.

Allen tried to hit it for a six but could not get underneath the ball properly, so he failed to generate enough height and distance. Naman Dhir, the fielder, had to move in towards the ball before timing his jump perfectly to complete the catch.

That smart plan worked like a charm for India as they got Finn Allen’s crucial wicket and New Zealand were reduced to 90/2. Still, Allen and Daryl Mitchell’s 86-run partnership did some damage to the Indian side.
