Bangladesh batter Towhid Hridoy went all guns blazing during the recent series against South Africa A as he hammered a record triple century in the second unofficial Test held at the Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.
The game began with South Africa A batting first and putting 512 runs on the board. Lesego Senokwane and Sinethemba Qeshile scored centuries while Gavin Kaplan contributed with 97 runs. But in the second innings, Bangladesh came out with a strong reply.

Meanwhile, Towhid Hridoy came to the crease when Bangladesh A were in trouble after losing Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Parvez Hossain Emon and Mohammad Naim early at 86/3. But instead of collapsing further, Hridoy took control of the innings.
He shared a 151-run partnership with Zakir Ali for the fifth wicket. Not only that, Towhid added another 185-run partnership with Mohammad Saifuddin.
Towhid Hridoy then continued batting deep into the innings, converting his hundred into a double hundred and eventually crossing the 300-run mark in 450 balls with 25 fours and six sixes.
With that record trophy century, Hridoy became only the third Bangladeshi batter to score a first-class triple century. Before him, only Tamim Iqbal and Raqibul Hasan had achieved the feat for Bangladesh.
Not only that, but Hridoy is also the first Bangladeshi to score a first-class triple century outside Bangladesh. He also became the highest-scoring batter for Bangladesh A in first-class cricket, surpassing Shahriar Hossain's previous record of 218.

Towhid Hridoy conquers South Africa
The triple century itself is huge, but doing it in South Africa makes the achievement even more historic. Towhid Hridoy became only the second overseas batter ever to score a first-class triple century in South Africa.
The first was England legend Dennis Compton, who scored exactly 300 for MCC during England's 1948-49 tour. So Hridoy has joined a very exclusive list.
Back on the field, Bangladesh benefited a lot from Towhid Hridoy’s triple century as they managed to get a lead over South Africa A on Day 4 of the second unofficial Test. While this game will likely result in a draw, Hridoy’s job was done.
Hridoy in line for Test comeback for Bangladesh
Having said that, this triple century in South Africa has come at the right time for Towhid Hridoy. Since his debut, he has been largely viewed as a white-ball specialist.
He was dropped after playing only one Test for Bangladesh. This massive innings therefore gives him a strong argument for another opportunity in the Test side.
Notably, his first-class numbers aren’t weak by any chance. In 25 innings, he has scored 995 runs with an average of over 41. At just 25 years of age, Towhid Hridoy has a lot of cricket left in him.
Hence, Bangladesh should consider bringing him back into the Test setup and groom him in the right environment.
