Sanjay Manjrekar never shies away from expressing his feelings, and the former Indian cricketer was once again vocal about Indian players crossing the line on the field. In the ongoing Test series between India and Sri Lanka, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was involved in a heated exchange not once but twice, and he was punished for it.

Things almost escalated in the India vs Sri Lanka second Test when Jaiswal argued with Sri Lankan bowler Asitha Fernando, and the two headbutted each other. Umpires intervened to separate the pair, and the ICC took notice of the matter as the duo received a harsh punishment.

Manjrekar demands ICC, BCCI to punish Jaiswal, Sooryavanshi

Sanjay Manjrekar was not happy with Jaiswal, and he also dragged Vaibhav Sooryavanshi into it, as the former cricketer wants the BCCI and the ICC to take strict action against the pair so that they never cross the line on the cricket field.

"Dear ICC and BCCI, Vaibhav for Ind A recently & now Jaiswal… if you keep letting them get away with such behaviour, you train them to repeat such behaviour. It’s not good for the sport & crucially their own future too," Manjrekar tweeted.

Interestingly, during India’s recent A tour of Sri Lanka, Sooryavanshi, too, had an altercation, as the 15-year-old youngster lost his cool, and Manjrekar was citing that incident to punish the youngster.

When Sooryavanshi crossed the line and fought with Sri Lanka A players

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Sri Lanka's A player Vishen Halambage were involved in a heated exchange that led to physical contact on the field after Sri Lanka A beat India A in a Super Over finish in the one-day tri-series in Dambulla in June 2026.

Sri Lankan keeper Niroshan Dickwella had to intervene to stop the fight, which had escalated quickly. The match went down to the Super Over, and chasing 17 runs, the Indian pair of Sooryavanshi and Suryansh Shedge failed to attain the target as India lost.

The Lankan side celebrated wildly, and they exchanged a few words with the departing Indian players as the 15-year-old lost his calm and he shoved Halambage as the Indian opener was heavily criticised for his decision-making.

Not the first time Jaiswal has been involved in unnecessary fights

The incident with Asitha Fernando was not the first time Jaiswal was involved in a heated exchange with a player. In 2022, he had a confrontation with his own teammate, Ajinkya Rahane, when the duo played for Mumbai in the domestic competition.

Reports later claimed there was further friction over Jaiswal's shot selection and his approach during Mumbai matches. One report also alleged that Jaiswal even kicked Rahane's kitbag after an argument.

Also, on his maiden tour of Australia in 2024, Jaiswal had a verbal argument with legendary pacer, Mitchell Starc. The incident happened in Perth when Jaiswal cheekily remarked to Starc after facing one of his deliveries, "It's coming too slow."

The event became a talking point as Jaiswal had decided to challenge one of the best pacers of the modern era. While some applauded his bravery, others criticised him for his unnecessary actions.
