Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was supposed to be India’s star in the ongoing tri-nation tournament featuring Afghanistan and Sri Lanka; however, his on-field batting performances have been a let-down, and moreover, his behaviour also came under scrutiny.
In the India A vs Sri Lanka A match on Monday, the Indian opener failed to deliver the goods and was criticised for his performance. If that was not enough, he clashed with the Sri Lankan players after the Super Over loss and had an animated argument that led to further criticism.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi involved in huge fight with Sri Lankan players
India batted first and posted 265 runs, and that looked enough to win the contest before Sri Lanka bounced back in the second innings. At one stage, the Sri Lankan side was down and out, but the hosts managed to score the exact same runs as India as the match went down to the Super Over.
India failed to score 17 runs in the Super Over, as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Suryansh Shedge failed to deliver the goods. Once the match got over, the Sri Lankan A side had an animated celebration, which infuriated the teenager, who fought with the host players, and they had to be separated.
The actual words that provoked Sooryavanshi
Some believe the celebration done by Sri Lanka provoked the 15-year-old Indian batter, but that is the partial truth, and the real details have emerged.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, it wasn’t the Indian opener who started the fight, but one of the Sri Lankan stars, Vishen Halambage, who made the first move. “Match over…now you go home,” said Halambage, as Sooryavanshi snapped, hearing this.
The two players were involved in a physical contact, and it could have severe consequences as ICC could take strict action against the two involved.
The Cricbuzz report also stated that after the fight ended, the Sri Lankan team thought of apologising to the Indian side, but whether they made the first move has yet to be revealed.
Can Sooryavanshi be banned by the ICC?
Sooryavanshi has been picked in the India squad for the Ireland and England T20I matches, but the big question arises: Will the ICC ban the Indian teenager for crossing the line?
The Indian cricket fans are worried that Sooryavanshi might be banned for his actions, but they can have a sigh of relief as the cricketer will not face any sanction for his actions since the incident occurred during A tour match and not at the international level.
However, since the incident crossed the line, the ICC could still impose some form of punishment, but not a ban.
Sooryavanshi's poor tri-series tournament so far
Sooryavanshi was expected to deliver the goods in the tri-series, but so far, he has been underwhelming. In. In three matches, he hasn’t done much, and it has affected India as the team has lost two out of the three games played.
In three games, the opener has scored just 79 runs, with an average of 26.33, and while the strike rate has been impressive, Sooryavanshi has failed to convert good starts into big scores.
