The Indian cricket team have summed up for a massive total in Colombo after Day 2 of the IND vs SL 2nd Test. As the visitors dominate the ground with the bat and the ball, Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Indian opener, has now found himself amid a series of chaos.
Jaiswal was involved in an ugly face-off with Sri Lankan pacer Asitha Fernando after he charged up to him following his dismissal in the first innings. The ICC sanctioned both players with a penalty, and yet Jaiswal didn’t mend his ways.
In a recent incident, Yashasvi Jaiswal was again found aggressively celebrating a Sri Lankan player’s dismissal as the hosts came to bat in their first innings.
Jaiswal celebrates fiercely after athletic catch; ignores ICC's punishment
As Sri Lankan openers Lahiru Udara and Kamil Mishara came out to open the innings, Udara was bamboozled by Prasidh Krishna in the second over, with the Indian pacer producing an inswing delivery.
Krishna bowled a 133.3 KPH delivery on a good length around the off-stump line. As the ball swung slightly back in, Udara squared up and edged it while attempting to defend from his back foot.
The ball nicked the outside edge of the bat and flew straight towards Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was positioned at third slip in the slip cordon. Showing incredible reflexes, Jaiswal produced an athletic, full-stretched dive to his right and completed a brilliant catch with both hands.
After successfully completing the catch, Jaiswal threw the ball into the air and punched the air aggressively while shouting and mouthing a few words in celebration following Lahiru Udara's dismissal.
Although the International Cricket Council recently punished Jaiswal for inappropriate physical contact with a player under Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players, he did not restrain himself from celebrating with full intensity again on the cricket field, especially against the Sri Lankan players.

Umpires intervene after Lahiru Udara's dismissal
While Yashasvi Jaiswal's celebration became the main talking point, another chaotic situation was developing behind the scenes. Earlier, the Sri Lankan batters had complained to the umpires about poor visibility as the day was coming to an end. They requested the on-field umpires not to allow the Indian pacers to operate.
However, the umpires did not consider Sri Lanka's appeal and allowed Prasidh Krishna to bowl the second over, during which Lahiru Udara was dismissed. The Sri Lankan batters again went back to complain to the umpires about the poor light and the decision to allow the Indian pacers to bowl.
This time, the umpires cooperated and intervened, asking Indian captain Shubman Gill to use only spinners because of the bad light. Following the officials' instructions, Gill brought Manav Suthar into the attack in the third over. Suthar then picked up Prabath Jayasuriya's wicket with the final ball of the day to end Sri Lanka's innings at 8-2 on Day 2.
Will ICC punish Yashasvi Jaiswal again for aggressive celebration?
Although the poor lighting conditions and the chaotic debate surrounding Lahiru Udara's dismissal have not received much attention, Yashasvi's aggressive send-off to Udara could still be a concern for the Indian cricketer.
Notably, under the ICC's Code of Conduct, players can be punished for aggressive or inappropriate celebrations if they cross the line and provoke the dismissed batter, contrary to the spirit of the game.
Under Article 2.5, the ICC prohibits players from using language, actions or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter following their dismissal. Overly animated or aggressive send-offs close to a batter, or running up to a player's face, can constitute a Level 1 breach and may result in a fine of 15% to 50% of the player's match fee, along with additional demerit points.
However, in this case, Yashasvi Jaiswal was celebrating aggressively with his teammates in the slip cordon, away from Lahiru Udara. Hence, there is a possibility that Jaiswal will not be fined for his actions following the charged-up affair against Asitha Fernando on Day 1.
