Dhruv Jurel composed a fighting century for Team India on Day 2 of their series-deciding second Test match against Sri Lanka in Colombo. The cricketer scored an unbeaten 115* off 177 balls with nine boundaries and two sixes to notch up his second Test hundred.
Notably, Jurel pulled off a special celebration after completing his century, seemingly in honour of his father, Nem Singh Jurel.

Dhruv Jurel brought up his century with a risky single in the 136th over of the first Indian innings at the SSC Cricket Club in Colombo. The cricketer attained the feat while batting alongside number 10 Mohammad Siraj.

Bringing up his second Test century from 171 balls, the 25-year-old pulled out a special celebration to mark the memorable occasion. Shortly after raising his bat, the star Indian wicketkeeper-batter showed off his arm tattoo, the one that read “Jai Jawaan, Jai Kisaan” (Hail the soldier, hail the farmer).
Jurel’s innings also helped Team India mount 503-9 in 138 overs before captain Shubman Gill called for a declaration late on Day 2 on Monday, August 24.
Why did Dhruv Jurel get the ‘Jai Jawaan Jai Kisaan’ tattoo?
Dhruv Jurel showed off his ‘Jai Jawaan Jai Kisaan’ tattoo to tribute his father Nem Singh Jurel. It is worth noting that Nem is a retired Indian Army and Kargil War veteran. He fought during India’s Kargil War back in 1999 before taking voluntary retirement.
Since bursting into the Indian cricket team, Dhruv has often dedicated all his personal milestones to his father and to the Indian Army. Apart from his Colombo special on August 24, he has previously mimicked a special salute while playing for Team India in internationals as well as for the Rajasthan Royals franchise in IPL.
Interestingly, Nem Singh Jurel also wanted Dhruv to join the Indian Armed Forces, before the aspiring wicketkeeper-batter went ahead to fulfil his cricketing ambitions.
Will Dhruv Jurel get in trouble with the ICC?
Incidentally, Dhruv Jurel is not the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to have displayed his affection for the Indian Armed Forces on the cricket field.
Previously, former captain and legendary stumper MS Dhoni played with the wicketkeeping gloves that displayed the paramilitary Balidaan Badge (sacrifice insignia). He displayed the commando dagger emblem during the earlier stages of India’s 2019 ICC World Cup campaign in England.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) objected to the same, and urged the BCCI to remove the badge, stating that it "violated clothing and equipment regulations that ban individual/personal messages or unauthorized logos on gear and equipment.”
Last year during the 2025 Asia Cup in the UAE, Pakistan cricketers Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan also landed in trouble with the officials for making provocative gestures (highly influenced by politics) during matches against Team India.
As of now, it remains to be seen if the ICC will summon Dhruv Jurel or take any action over his patriotic tattoo.
