India enjoyed a strong day with the bat on Day 1 in the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka, but Yashasvi Jaiswal’s heated exchange with Asitha Fernando became one of the biggest talking points in Colombo on August 23.
It is worth noting that the incident took place shortly before lunch on Day 1 of the second Test after Jaiswal was dismissed.
The incident between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando gained plenty of attention, with former cricketers and experts discussing whether the Indian opener had crossed the line.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Gives Stern Reply To Harsha Bhogle
Harsha Bhogle also shared his thoughts on the incident in a video with Cricbuzz. Bhogle questioned the way Jaiswal reacted after his dismissal, leading to a strong response from the star player.

Yashasvi Jaiswal replied:
Jaiswal responded directly, asking people not to judge the incident without knowing what had been said between the players.
“If you don’t know what he said then please don’t make your judgment if anyone cross the line we need to let them know this India will fight and reply” - Yashasvi Jaiswal replied.
What Did Harsha Bhogle Say About The Incident?
Harsha Bhogle said that Jaiswal may have been provoked by something Fernando said, but he felt Jaiswal should not have responded.
"As he (Jaiswal) is walking away, you can hear someone say something to him. I've never been a fan of sendoffs, once you've got a batter out that's good enough".
He explained that once a batter is dismissed, there is no need for a send-off or further argument. According to Bhogle, Jaiswal should have simply walked away instead of turning back and getting involved.
"Best thing to do in such a situation is just to walk away, but he turns and comes back"
Bhogle also accepted that Fernando's comment may have been inappropriate. However, he felt Jaiswal could have handled the situation better by ignoring it and moving on.
"All I would say to Jaiswal is, yes, maybe what was said should not have been said, but as you give, so you must take, the easiest thing is just to go away," he added.
What Happened Between Yashasvi Jaiswal And Asitha Fernando?
It is important to note that the incident between Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando happened in the 17th over. The 24-year-old star player, Jaiswal, had started the over strongly, smashing Fernando for three consecutive boundaries.
However, the Sri Lankan fast bowler responded with a shorter delivery on the final ball of the over.
Jaiswal got an inside edge onto his stumps and was dismissed. As he began walking back towards the pavilion, there appeared to be a send-off from the Sri Lankan players.
Jaiswal then turned around and charged back towards Fernando. The two players squared up and briefly came head-to-head before Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva stepped in and separated them.
