Australia have made a strong comeback against Bangladesh in the second Test in Mackay, defeating them by an innings and 51 runs after suffering a nine-wicket defeat in the series opener in Darwin.

Pat Cummins-led team produced a stunning bowling performance on Saturday, August 22, dismissing Bangladesh for just 64 runs after winning the toss and opting to bowl first.

Mitchell Starc led the attack with a brilliant spell of 6/12 in 10 overs, while Pat Cummins picked up 3/25. Bangladesh were bowled out in only 34 overs as Australia's fast bowlers dominated from the beginning.

The result has also made a major difference to the World Test Championship (WTC) standings, with Australia moving further ahead at the top of the table.

Updated WTC Table After AUS vs BAN 2nd Test

With Australia winning the second Test vs Bangladesh, their WTC record improved from 9 matches, 7 wins to 10 matches, 8 wins and 2 defeats. Their points increase from 84 to 96, while their PCT rises from 77.78% to 80.00%.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, move from five to six matches. Since a Test defeat does not add WTC points, Bangladesh remain on 40 points, while their PCT falls from 66.67% to 55.56%.

Australia Take Control After Bangladesh Collapse

Bangladesh fought back with the ball in Australia's first innings. Left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam produced a career-best performance of 7/48 as Australia were dismissed for 210. 

Despite the collapse, Cameron Green played an important innings and made 67 runs off 105 balls to give Australia a first-innings lead of 146 runs.

Bangladesh then struggled again in their second innings, with Najmul Hossain Shanto just managing 31 runs off 46 balls. Mushfiqur Rahim also made a valuable contribution, scoring 29 runs off 80 balls.

Starc continued his outstanding performance in the second innings, adding four more wickets to his tally.
