Though Hosein has remained on the bench to recover, his wicket-to-wicket line and the subtle use of variations in speed make him an impactful bowling option in the powerplay for the five-time IPL winners. Under a young captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the team is struggling with poor powerplay performance and a high death-over-economy rate. Ahead of the tournament, Sanju Samson’s high-profile trade gained massive attention, followed by a sensational run in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026. Nonetheless, the opening batter is yet to prove his mettle for the CSK. He has recorded low scores of 6, 7, and 9 in his opening matches, struggling to live up to expectations as an anchor of the top order. Thus, the return of players like MS Dhoni and Dewald Brevis could come as a breath of fresh air amid the so far catastrophic IPL 2026.
