Rajasthan Royals are set to lock horns with Delhi Capitals at the iconic Sawai Mansingh Stadium tonight, May 1, in the ongoing IPL 2026. It is worth noting that both the teams will enter the clash with contrasting fortunes.

Riyan Parag-led RR are coming with a newfound confidence after they thrashed home team PBKS at the PCA New Cricket Stadium, chasing a massive 223. On the other hand, the Capitals have been inconsistent and chaotic so far in the season.

Led by Axar Patel, they lost to RCB by 9 wickets after being bundled for just 75, directly following a 264/2 performance against Punjab, which they also lost in a historic run-chase.

Nonetheless, ahead of the match, the biggest concern lies in the Rajasthan contingent. After Riyan Parag’s vaping video, it was speculated that the RR captain would be heavily fined or even banned by the BCCI, the apex body of cricket in India.

That being said, this article will explore whether Riyan Parag will play the RR vs DC IPL match today after the vaping fiasco.

What is the Riyan Parag Vaping case?

Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag, who has not had the best of times with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2026, was seen inhaling an e-cigarette, also known as vaping, in the dressing room during the live broadcast of their game against Punjab Kings.

The Royals won the game, ending the Kings’ unbeaten run in the tournament. However, the Riyan Parag Vaping Video has gone viral all over the internet, prompting serious action from the BCCI.

It is worth noting that this is not the first controversy to hit the Royals this season. Earlier this month, team manager Romi Bhinder was fined Rs one lakh for breaching PMOA protocol after being found using his phone in the dugout.

IPL and BCCI officials involved in the conduct of the IPL termed it a careless act in the age of social media and prying TV cameras.

Will BCCI ban Riyan Parag after the vaping video debacle?

On Thursday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India fined 25 per cent of Parag’s match fee and handed a demerit point after being caught vaping inside the dressing room.

According to an official IPL statement, Parag admitted to committing a Level 1 offence under the league’s Code of Conduct, which relates to behaviour that brings the game into disrepute. Match referee Amit Sharma imposed the sanction, which the RR skipper accepted without contest.

Moreover, it is noted that BCCI is seeking additional prospects to resolve the situation to protect the sanctity of the Indian Premier League.

"The BCCI is also exploring other options to initiate proceedings for stringent action against the erring team, its officials and players to ensure that the reputation of IPL remains intact," the BCCI statement concluded.

While Riyan Parag has escaped the ban so far, the BCCI condition emphasises that any further repetition of the act either by Parag or any other player will not just be treated as a disciplinary violation, but could prompt a career-ending suspension.

Final take: Will Riyan Parag play in today’s IPL match against DC?

Though the BCCI investigation continues to find more ‘stringent action’ for the future, Riyan Parag is eligible to play in the Rajasthan Royals versus Delhi Capitals match tonight.

So far in the tournament, Parag is struggling for form, averaging around 13-14 runs in nine matches, with a highest score of 29. Despite leading the Rajasthan Royals and showing strong leadership, his batting has failed to produce even a solitary half-century, raising concerns, even as the coaching staff backs him to return to form.
