As India A lost a tough game in the Super Over to Sri Lanka A in the Tri-Series A, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became the centre of the limelight despite not being able to score a single half-century on the tour.

The IND A vs SL A reverse fixture went to the Super Over, with the hosts scoring 18 runs in it. The Boys in Blue sent Sooryavanshi and Suryansh Shedge to chase it down, but they weren't able to achieve it.

Soon after the game, the child prodigy was involved in a heated tussle with one of the Sri Lankan players.

Anura Tennekoon lends Vaibhav Sooryavanshi an advice

Present in the audience, former Sri Lanka captain Anura Tennekoon had a brief interaction with the Indian prodigy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and mentioned the same while talking to Sportstar.

“He is a generational talent,” Tennekoon told Sportstar.

Although Tennekoon had to wait to meet the 15-year-old after the game because of the after-match drama, he gave Sooryavanshi a million-dollar piece of advice.

“You focus on your game and cut out the outside noise. Today, unfortunately, you (Vaibhav Sooryavanshi) couldn’t get going. But that’s part of the game, you can’t get going every day," the former Sri Lankan captain quoted his conversation with Sooryavanshi.

Anura Tennekoon calls himself Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's fan

Anura Tennekoon, who is Sri Lanka's first ODI captain, also mentioned that he is a massive Vaibhav Sooryavanshi fan, admiring him since IPL 2026.

“I was really impressed by his batting in the IPL. And hitting those sixes and fours the way he does is something unbelievable. I hope he continues in this way,” Tennekoon said.

The swashbuckling southpaw had smacked 776 runs in 16 innings at a whooping strike rate of 237.31, which resulted in his selection in the IND A squad and also earned an India call-up.

However, the teenager is struggling to translate his IPL accomplishments into performances at a higher level. So far, in the Tri Series, he has slammed just 79 runs in three innings at an average of 26.33.

India A's woeful run in Tri Series 2026

The Tilak Varma-led India A haven't had a good time in the ongoing Tri Series 2026. Although Ruturaj Gaikwad's century helped them open the campaign with a win, the Boys in Blue have lost two games in a row after that.

The Indian boys scored big and posted a massive 349/9 against Afghanistan A, but as the game was reduced due to rain, the opposition chased the target and won by 4 runs (DLS method).

Lastly, India A were bowled out for 265 runs against Sri Lanka A, before the hosts crawled their way to 265/9. In the Super Over, they blasted 18 runs, but the Boys in Blue could only score 9 runs in the extra over.

Thus, India A's next fixture against Afghanistan A becomes a must-win to secure qualification for the Tri-Series 2026 final.
