David Warner seems to be blowing hot and cold this PSL 2026 season. Leading the Karachi Kings franchise, the legendary Australian opener has registered a duck and another single-digit score so far, but also slapped a match-winning half-century against the RawalPindiZ last week.

While Warner has enjoyed considerable success as a captain of his side, the 39-year-old has found some fresh ‘legal’ trouble on the sidelines, thus pertaining to a ‘drink and drive’ case back in Australia during his short visit back home.

Even though the former Australian opener has since played a match for the Karachi Kings in PSL 2026 upon returning back in Pakistan, the cricketer was forced to sit out of his team’s recent match against the Hyderabad Kingsmen on April 11 in Karachi. Here, we reveal the exact reason behind Warner’s forced pull out of the match.

Karachi Kings stand-in captain confirms why David Warner is not playing

In the absence of David Warner, fellow overseas Karachi Kings recruit Moeen Ali led the franchise in match number 20 of the PSL 2026 season against the Hyderabad Kingsmen in Karachi. At the toss, the senior England all-rounder confirmed why Warner failed to make it to the playing XI despite being team’s captain.

Much to everyone’s surprise, Warner’s legal dispute back in Australia had nothing to do with him sitting out to the match against the Kingsmen. Instead, the cricketer was ruled out of the Karachi Kings playing XI owing to his back pain.

While speaking with the commentator before the match, Moeen Ali said “He's (David Warner) not playing. He has a bad back, so unfortunately, he misses out.

David Warner replaced with THIS South African opener

With David Warner recovering from his back pain, the legendary Australian opener was replaced by South African batting star Reeza Hendricks in the Karachi Kings playing XI. Hendricks, however, failed to make the most of his rare opportunity in the XI as the Proteas opener was dismissed for just two runs off four balls in the match by Hyderabad Kingsmen pacer Mohammad Ali.

Moeen Ali also confirmed two additional changes in the playing XI, with Ihsanullah and in-form fast bowler Hasan Ali returning to the side in place of ousted Mir Hamza and Mohammad Hamza respectively.

The stand-in skipper said “Yeah, three changes. David Warner misses out, so Reeza comes in. Ihsanullah comes in as well to give us that pace in the middle, and Hasan is back too.”

Warner-less Karachi Kings 188 in 20 overs

In the absence of captain David Warner, who also happens to their most experienced T20 batter, the Karachi Kings franchise still managed to rack up a competitive total of 188-8 in 20 overs. Saad Baig at number four top-scored in the innings by cracking 53 runs off just 37 balls. Captain Moeen Ali blasted 44 off just 16 balls to provide the slog-overs impetus to his side.

For the winless Hyderabad Kingsmen, young pacer Hunain Shah picked up impressive figures of 3-19 in the innings.
