Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made headlines once again on Wednesday when India A and Afghanistan A were up against each other in a must-win Tri-Nation Series 2026 match in Sri Lanka. The all-important clash took place at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.

Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old who won it all after IPL 2026, was in the news lately after several fights with Sri Lanka players in a high-octane match that went to the Super Over. Even though it was not as fierce on Wednesday morning as it was a couple of days ago, the event was still worth attention.

Sooryavanshi Falls For 38 Vs Afghanistan

After the catch controversy, Sooryavanshi got another lifeline when Faridoon Dawoodzai, the man whose catch was denied by the third umpire, came to bowl in the next over. This time, the catch was well and truly dropped, as the short fine leg fielder made a mess of a catch.

Unfortunately, Sooryavanshi could not make it big. Even though he smashed four fours and two sixes, he could only muster 38 off 28 balls before Faridoon Dawoodzai dramatically took his wicket and made a wild celebration.

India Reach 91/1 After 10 Overs

With a place in the final on the line, India raced to 91 runs in 10 overs. They posted 349/9 on the board last time when they faced Afghanistan A, only to suffer a defeat in a rain-curtailed match.

Keeping that in mind, they have got off to a fiery start once again, with Priyansh Arya and Ruturaj Gaikwad currently in the middle. Arya is batting on 48* off 28 balls, while Gaikwad is on 4* off 5 balls.

The series is nicely poised, with every team in the Tri-Nation series still able to qualify for the finals. While there are ifs and buts for both Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, a defeat for India would knock them out of the tournament. Hence, this match holds the key particularly for the Tilak Verma-led side.
