Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, Gujarat Titans lost four out of their first seven matches in IPL 2026. However, they came back strongly in the latter half, winning five on the trot, which helped them finish second in the IPL 2026 points table.

Eventually, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) had the last laugh, as Gill’s Gujarat Titans lost the final at Narendra Modi Stadium. Nevertheless, they had quite a few promising superstars throughout the competition, and one of them was Ashok Sharma.

Overnight, Ashok Sharma became the IPL sensation by bowling at express pace. He played six matches in the competition before his high economy rate became a topic of debate over his exclusion.

Ashok Sharma Parts Ways With Rajasthan

Ashok Sharma used to play for Rajasthan in India’s domestic circuit. There, he played four First-Class matches, 7 List A matches and 16 T20s in different competitions.

However, going forward, Ashok will play for Gujarat after parting ways with Rajasthan.

Even though the real reason behind Ashok leaving Rajasthan is yet to be revealed, it is safe to assume that Ashok wants to be more familiar with Gujarat’s conditions to prepare himself for the IPL.

Of course, that will increase his chances of getting a call-up from India sooner. Rajasthan have already given a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to Ashok for his move.

Needless to say, the Rajasthan pace attack has lost its sharpness with Ashok’s departure, who will only have Deepak Chahar, Khaleel Ahmed and Aniket Choudhary, among others.

On the other hand, Arzan Nagwaswalla, Chintan Gaja, and Hemang Patel are some of the popular names who play for Gujarat. They will surely be boosted by the joining of Ashok Sharma, who is known for hitting the deck hard.

Ashok Sharma Stats

Ashok Sharma joined the IPL for Gujarat Titans just before the recently concluded edition. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) bid for him in the last IPL auction, helping him to get an INR 90 lakh contract after setting his base price at INR 30 Lakh.

Overall, Ashok has 14 First-Class wickets, 13 List-A wickets and 28 wickets in T20s. In the last edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), he picked up 22 wickets in 10 matches.

When Will India's Domestic Competitions Begin?

There will be 1788 matches in the 2026/27 season in India, as revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It will begin with the Duleep Trophy, scheduled to get underway on August 23.

After that, the Irani Cup will be held from October 1 onwards. Ranji Trophy, on the other hand, will be in two phases: the first between October 11 and November 5, and the second between January 17 and February 4 next year.
