In the final hour of IPL 2026 final, a massive controversy erupted surrounding Virat Kohli. The
right-handed batter was at the centre of a massive drama, which involved his potential dismissal. For the unversed, on the last ball of the 16th over, the former RCB captain was given out, only for the decision to be overturned after several minutes of heated drama.
Notably, Shubman Gill took the important catch, that eventually reviewed, and it sparked a controversy, which involved the on-field umpires, Virat Kohli himself, and the GT captain.
Shubman Gill’s Catch Deemed Unfair
As mentioned above, Virat Kohli played an uppish shot off Arshad Khan’s over, which went straight to Shubman Gill at mid-off. The GT captain dived forward to complete the catch, and the umpires were happy with the effort.
Virat had even walked off a bit, but then rushed towards the umpire, telling them to at least check the validity of the catch. It was a heated exchange because it looked like Nitin Menon was not interested in the request.

As soon as Virat began to walk off to the pavilion, the umpires had a change of heart and asked the 37-year-old to wait. The third umpire had a good look at it, and after several minutes of delay, Virat Kohli was given not-out.
Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli Argue Over a Decision
The decision didn’t go well with Shubman Gill, who then also argued with Virat Kohli over the decision. Gill tried to explain his case that his fingers were underneath, but the umpires had made up their mind.
As soon as the giant screen showed the decision to be not-out, Virat Kohli threw his fist in the air.

Virat Kohli Plays A Knock Of His Lifetime In IPL 2026 Final
It was a match to remember for Virat Kohli as the right-handed batter scored an unbeaten 75 (42) and also scored the winning runs. It was a knock to remember because the right-haned batter also brought up his fastest fifty in the history (25 balls).
After a fast fifty, Virat Kohli's knock featured nine fours and three sixes and scripted several feats. He battled through pain and it looked like that Virat might even walk out of the field due to the cramps.
Not once, but Virat Kohli called the physios on several occassions, but also shrugged off any serious concern. During one of the breaks, it was revealed that Virat Kohli was batting with a strapped calf, showing the dedication he has for the game.
Following the win, Virat Kohli celebrated the win in style and made a special gesture after scoring the winning runs.
