In what turned out to be a surprising moment, star cricketer Virat Kohli dropped an easy catch during the IPL 2026 season opener between RCB and SRH. His fumble even left Anushka Sharma, his wife, in splits.
RCB bowled first against SRH, and Jacob Duffy gave them the perfect start by picking a 3-wicket-haul with the new ball. However, Ishan Kishan showed resistance, scoring 80 off just 38 balls.

Meanwhile, during the death overs, Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled the 18th over to restrict SRH from scoring 200+ runs. Aniket Verma was playing a solid cameo for Hyderabad, and RCB had to stop that.
Interestingly, Bhuvneshwar did provide an opportunity. He bowled a fuller delivery right into the slot, and Aniket went for an ambitious no-look shot but completely miscued it, sending the ball high towards long-on.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli charged in, got under it, but the ball slipped through his hands and thudded onto his thigh. It was a surprising miss from a usually reliable fielder and allowed the batter to escape with a single.
His dropped catch left his wife, Anushka Sharma, embarrassed in the stands as she posed a wary smile. Not only that, but fans also trolled Virat Kohli on social media for dropping such easy catches at crucial times.
Aniket Verma’s wicket could have been a blessing for RCB as the batter scored 43 off just 18 balls and helped SRH finish at 201/9.

Virat Kohli eyeing big records in IPL 2026
That being said, keeping the fielding aside, Virat Kohli is embarking on special milestones with the bat. He needs 339 runs to reach 9000 IPL runs, which will help him become the first player ever to hit that milestone in IPL history.
IPL has existed since 2008, and many legends like Chris Gayle and Rohit Sharma have played through the years. But no one has reached 9000 runs before.
Not only that, but Virat Kohli also needs 9 more sixes to reach 300 IPL sixes. The only players ahead of him are Chris Gayle (357) and Rohit Sharma (302). If he achieves this record, Kohli will join a very elite power-hitting club.
Without a doubt, Virat Kohli will have to grind consistently to achieve both of these milestones this IPL 2026 season.
SRH put 201/9 on the board
Coming back to the game, SRH recovered fantastically after losing 3 wickets early in the powerplay. Reduced to 29/3, SRH were rescued by a sensational 80 off 38 balls from Ishan Kishan, who anchored the innings with aggressive intent.
He found strong support from Heinrich Klaasen (31), while a late blitz from Aniket Verma (43 off 18) powered the total past 200.
For RCB, Jacob Duffy was the standout with an excellent 3/22, striking early to put SRH under pressure, while Romario Shepherd also picked up three wickets but proved expensive.
Despite the early breakthroughs, RCB struggled to contain runs in the middle and death overs, allowing SRH to stage a strong comeback and set a challenging target of 201/9.
