For match 5 of the PSL 2026 season, Quetta Gladiators will lock horns with Hyderabad Kingsmen on Sunday, March 29. The clash will be held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore at 3:00 PM IST.

Quetta will come in after a narrow loss to Karachi Kings, where their bowling struggled to contain runs despite efforts from key pacers, while Hyderabad were comprehensively beaten by Lahore Qalandars, exposing weaknesses in both their bowling attack and batting depth.

Having said that, Quetta Gladiators appear slightly stronger on paper due to their balanced lineup and experience. However, as far as the team combination is concerned, Saud Shakeel may explore tiny tweaks.

Top-Order - Saud Shakeel, Shamyl Hussain, Rilee Rossouw

Against Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators’ opening pair performed brilliantly, scoring 79 runs together. Both Saud Shakeel and Shamyl Hussain batted with intent and gave a perfect platform to the Gladiators.

Hence, the opening combination won’t be changed because why fix something which isn’t broken? At no. 3 in the Quetta Gladiators playing XI, Quetta must re-evaluate.

Khawaja Nafay struggled to bat against spinners as he got bowled for just 3 runs against Adam Zampa. He must be dropped to no. 4, as Rilee Rossouw is a much more experienced and better-suited candidate for the no. 3 role.

At no. 3, Quetta Gladiators need an anchor, and between Nafay and Rossouw, the latter should be the first choice in the Quetta Gladiators playing XI vs Hyderabad Kingsmen.

Middle Order - Khawaja Nafay, Hasan Nawaz, Ben McDermott, Tom Curran

Khawaja Nafay should ideally come in to bat at no. 4, as he will have some cushion to bank on. There will be less pressure as the top order will put something on board to capitalise on. In such situations, Nafay can rediscover his form and confidence. 

At no. 5, Hasan Nawaz is expected to continue. He is a solid hitter but struggled in the opening game, scoring 19 off 24 balls. Strike rate is the main issue in his case, but the youngster is expected to pick up the pace as the tournament goes forward.

Wicket-keeper Ben McDermott may come at no. 6. He scored a quick 25 runs at a 195 strike rate to keep Quetta Gladiators in the fight. 

Tom Curran, however, has struggled at no. 7. He was dismissed for a golden duck in the previous fixture and had an off day with the ball as well. Curran is a key asset, as his all-round skills are something the Quetta Gladiators need desperately.

Due to a lack of a better alternative, Curran is expected to retain his place in the Quetta Gladiators playing XI vs Hyderabad Kingsmen.

Bowlers - Ahmed Daniyal, Alzarri Joseph, Abrar Ahmed, Usman Tariq

The bowling department in the Quetta Gladiators playing XI will start with Ahmed Daniyal, who starred with a 3-wicket-haul in the last game against Karachi Kings. His new-ball spell will be crucial for Quetta Gladiators to dominate the powerplay.

To support Daniyal in the fast bowling department, Alzarri Joseph will step in. He can also contribute with a few crucial runs, which is a big plus.

Lastly, Quetta Gladiators’ biggest strength lies with the spin duo of Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq. Both spinners picked a wicket each in the last game, but Quetta will expect a lot more from the experienced duo.
