Getting ‘hit wicket’ in any form of cricket makes for a rare occurrence. For Sai Sudharsan, however, it has become an unfortunate trend, considering the Gujarat Titans opener has now endured the unusual dismissal twice within a week.

Both of Sudharsan’s bizarre dismissals occurred in the all-important playoffs stage of the IPL 2026 season, making the moment all the more frustrating for fans of the franchise.

Not long after his dismissal against the Rajasthan Royals in New Chandigarh, a previously-unseen footage surfaced on social media where the prolific Titans opener is actually seen preparing to avoid the dreadful mishap.

Even though Sudharsan prepared for the mishap, fate had other plans as the Gujrat Titans opener still fell for a ‘hit wicket’ in the game.

Sai Sudharsan gets ‘hit wicket’ twice in a week

In Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2026 season against the RCB on May 26, Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan lost the grip of his bat as it hit the stumps after bouncing once on the pitch. To make matters worse, the cricketer had perfectly timed the ball for a boundary before the unfortunate bat-slip.

The incident occurred during the third over of the Gujarat Titans innings in their chase of 255 runs at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

A couple of days later in New Chandigarh, Sudharsan once again lost his grip, this time against the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 of the tournament. The cricketer struck Brijesh Sharma’s low full-toss delivery for a cracking boundary before the bat went flying out of his hands and landed onto the stumps.

The unfortunate dismissal ended Sai Sudharsan’s well-set stay at 58 off 32 balls as the Titans lost its first wicket of the game at 167 in 12.5 overs.

With the latest incident, Sudharsan became the first cricketer in IPL history to get ‘hit wicket’ three times in his career, and also the first to be dismissed in such a manner twice in a single season.

Gujarat Titans to face RCB in final

Gujarat Titans pulverised Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets and with eight balls to spare in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2026 season. Captain and prolific opener Shubman Gill blasted 104 runs from just 53 balls to make lightwork of Royals’ 214-run total in New Chandigarh.

The Titans will now take on defending champions RCB in the final of the tournament on Sunday, May 31. The match will be hosted by the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the action will commence from 7:30 PM IST onwards.
