Sai Sudharsan struck a regal 58 off 32 balls against Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2026 season. Storming the Gujarat Titans past the 150-run mark in just the halfway stage, the prolific opener looked certain to take his side all the way past Royals’ 214-run total.
However, the cricketer got dismissed by Rajasthan Royals’ uncapped fast bowler Brijesh Sharma under the most dramatic circumstances, with his bat flying out of his hands and landing onto the stumps. The incident also marked Sudharsan’s second ‘hit wicket’ in succession this IPL 2026 season, after the elegant left-hander was also dismissed in a similar manner against the RCB earlier this week.
Sai Sudharsan’s unfortunate dismissal against the Rajasthan Royals in New Chandigarh even prompted his skipper and opening partner Shubman Gill to fall on his knees at the other end.

What’s worse is that the Gujarat Titans opener had timed the ball so perfectly that it raced away towards the boundary off Brijesh Sharma in the 13th over of the innings.
His captain Shubman Gill, dumbfounded, fell to his knees at the other end as he watched yet another brilliantly-timed Sudharsan stroke end in the most unfortunate fashion imaginable.
Gill and Sudharsan stack up records with epic partnership
Both Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan ended up crafting a colossal 167-run opening partnership in just 12.5 overs. While Sudharsan whacked 58 runs off 32 balls with eight boundaries and a six, captain Gill smeared 104 off 53 balls with 15 boundaries and three huge sixes at the Mullanpur Stadium in New Chandigarh.

Through the course of their partnership, the Gujarat Titans openers surpassed RCB’s Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in terms of recording the highest number of 50-plus stands in IPL history.
Both Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan also listed their 11th partnership of 100 runs or more in the IPL, thus once again going past AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli.
Gujarat Titans march towards easy victory
Rajasthan Royals batted first and mounted 214-6 in 20 overs. Teenage opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi top-scored in the innings with his scorching 96-run knock from 47 balls.
While Ravindra Jadeja compiled 45* off 35 while battling injury, Donovan Ferreira blasted 38* off just 11 balls towards the end.
In response, the Gujarat Titans motored towards their target with much comfort following the epic opening partnership between Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan.
