There are many ways for a batter to be dismissed, but none more unfortunate or embarrassing than a ‘hit wicket’ dismissal. Although it is a rare form of dismissal for the IPL’s fast-paced environment, as many as 19 instances have been recorded of hit wickets in the history of the tournament.

Here is a look at the last five instances of hit wickets in IPL, as it occurred since IPL 2023.

5. Ayush Badoni vs RCB (b Wayne Parnell, IPL 2023)

Ayush Badoni was dismissed courtesy of a ‘hit wicket’ against RCB in match number 15 of the IPL 2023 season in Bengaluru. Batting at number seven for the LSG franchise in a monumental chase of 213 runs, Badoni compiled 30 runs from 24 balls with four cracking boundaries.

The cricketer also launched Wayne Parnell for a huge six in the penultimate over of the run chase, but ultimately had his bat crash onto the stumps. Not only was Badoni deprived of a six, he made a long walk back to the pavilion at a critical stage of the game.

4. Abhinav Manohar vs MI (b Trent Boult, IPL 2025)

In match 41 of the IPL 2025 season between SRH and Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad, Abhinav Manohar was out ‘hit wicket’ by visiting fast bowler Trent Boult. The incident occurred during the final over of the SRH innings, after the number seven batter reached 43* off 37 balls.

While it initially seemed that Manohar had inside-edged the ball onto the stumps, television replays showed that the cricketer himself chomped his bat onto the bails.

3. Krunal Pandya vs SRH (b Pat Cummins, IPL 2025)

RCB all-rounder Krunal Pandya was hit wicket by SRH captain and legendary Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins in match number 65 of the IPL 2025 season. With RCB chasing 232 for a win in Lucknow, Krunal arrived to the crease at 174-5 in 16 overs.

The cricketer struck two boundaries in his six-ball stay before he ended up hitting the stumps off the bottom of his bat. Krunal’s dismissal was part of a wider RCB collapse, as they slipped from 173-3 to 189 all out.

2. Kusal Mendis vs MI (b Mitchell Santner, IPL 2025)

In the Eliminator match of the IPL 2025 season in New Chandigarh, Gujarat Titans number three Kusal Mendis became the first cricketer in history to get ‘hit wicket’ in an IPL knockout/playoff match.

The elegant wicketkeeper-batter struck one boundary and two huge sixes after a length ball from Mumbai Indians spinner Mitchell Santner prompted him to go back for a pull. In doing so, the cricketer had his backfoot slip and the stumps disturbed as the Titans lost the high-stakes match by 20 runs.

1. Sai Sudharsan vs RCB (b Jacob Duffy, IPL 2026)

Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan got off to a cracking start against defending champions RCB in Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2026 season in Dharamsala. The cricketer struck three boundaries to race to 14* before he lost his grip and his bat hit the stumps after bouncing once on the pitch.

Interestingly, the instance marked the second hit wicket of Sudharsan’s IPL career, after he was dismissed in a similar manner back in IPL 2022. It was also the second instance of any batter getting ‘hit wicket’ in an IPL knockout/playoffs match.
