Rohit Sharma having a conversation with umpire (Source: Screengrab)
Rohit Sharma and his conversation with the umpires often become the centre of attention. Sunday was one of those days, and it happened before the former MI captain made headlines with an extraordinary knock against KKR at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Rohit, who had a funny argument with umpire Virender Sharma back in January 2024, was once again caught having a conversation with another official. This time, it was a fourth official with whom the 38-year-old had a chat, and the topic of subject was the thickness of his bat.
Rohit Sharma & His Hilarious Conversations With Umpires
Last year in IPL 2025, umpires used a ‘bat gauge’ to check whether bat blades were perfectly alright for the spirit of the game. On Sunday, during the MI vs KKR IPL 2026 match, the fourth umpire checked whether Rohit Sharma’s bat did not exceed 10.8cm in width or 6.7cm in depth.
The check after the bat gauge showed it was not in perfect condition, as the gauge was stuck. Hence, just when the umpire began to give Rohit a lecture, the former MI captain jokily sent him aside, indicating that there were no issues at all.

Rohit Sharma's Bat Does Wonders At Wankhede Vs KKR
Nevertheless, Rohit was absolutely delightful to watch while playing with the same bat against KKR. The veteran campaigner batted like he was in his early 30s.
Throughout his stay, Rohit Sharma smashed six exquisite sixes, coupled with six fours, before a spectacular catch from Anukul Roy ended his 38-ball 78 run knock.
By then, the job was well and truly done for MI, who eventually chased down a 221-run target with five balls and six wickets in hand.

Even though Rohit dropped a catch against KKR, he was seen as very active on the field against KKR, which included a couple of diving saves inside the 30-yard circle.
Therefore, it can be said that he will continue to field against Delhi Capitals, with Suryakumar Yadav sustaining a groin concern and coming as an impact substitute.
Along with Rohit, Ryan Rickelton seemed extremely dangerous against Kolkata Knight Riders. The pair made the KKR attack helpless, and Tilak Varma, captain Hardik Pandya and SKY got the job done with little difficulty.
Notably, it was MI’s first win in their IPL opener since 2012, something they had always failed to achieve over and over again.
