On his return to his good-old IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR), Ravindra Jadeja showed little respect to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Monday at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.

All the focus was on Jadeja, who was traded to RR from CSK in a high-voltage swap that saw Sanju Samson go the other way.

While Samson disappointed the fans, Jadeja lit up the Guwahati crowd by taking two wickets in his first over. Moreover, the gesture he made after picking up his second wicket – of Shivam Dube – hogged all the limelight.

No Love Lost Between Ravindra Jadeja And CSK

Considering the fact that Jadeja was with CSK in 2012, and kept on playing for them (barring 2015 and 2016 when he represented Gujarat Lions during CSK’s IPL ban) till IPL 2025, it was interesting to see whether Jadeja would celebrate a wicket against his beloved team.

And he gave his reaction straightaway, and the gun-firing gesture after Shivam Dube lost his wicket on the next ball after hitting him a six told the story.

Ravindra Jadeja's Record For Rajasthan Royals

Before joining CSK, Jadeja played for RR in the early years of the IPL. He was there with the inaugural IPL champions for the first four years, during which he was banned from the league for one year due to contract violations.

In IPL 2008, Jadeja played 14 matches for Rajasthan Royals, scoring 135 runs but taking no wickets.

However, he picked up six wickets in 13 matches in the following season and tallied 295 runs.

After that, two years later, Jadeja aggregated 283 runs and scalped eight wickets before joining the MS Dhoni-led side for approximately $2m.

CSK In Tatters Vs RR

Chennai, meanwhile, got off to the worst possible start in IPL 2026. After Riyan Parag won the toss and asked CSK to bat first, they lost Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson early, and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals.

At the time of writing this, CSK are 92/8 in 14.5 overs, with Jamie Overton batting on 19*. Matt Henry is on 5* off 5 deliveries, as the Yellow Army could not even hold the fort for a while.

For RR, Nandre Burger and Jofra Archer did the damage most, taking two wickets each. Jadeja got two scalps in his first three overs, while Sandeep Sharma and debutant Brijesh Sharma had one wicket apiece.

Jadeja was at his absolute best for CSK in IPL 2023. During that season, he took 20 wickets across 16 matches and also scored 190 runs. This included the championship-winning boundary against Gujarat Titans in the final.

Right after Jadeja’s winning hit, MS Dhoni lifted him with teary eyes and made the moment one of the most iconic ones in the history of the competition.
